    I seriously doubt it's the CVs.. worn CVs don't do that. They just break. :)

    If it's slipping only in really soft stuff, you've either got a problem with your clutch or something inside the front diff is slipping, though I would expect you'd hear something too. I would pull the transmission and see what's going on with the clutch first.. before trying to tear the front end apart.

    Yeah they sure do - I can remember from 7-8 years old first smelling that smell when my father burned the clutch on his '78 chevy trying to pull a stump. Since then, it is so easy to detect when someone's clutch is burning.
