Should I engage the 4WD occasionally during the summer when it’s not normally needed? I’m thinking it would throw around the oil to parts not lubed with it not engaged.

I've read on the manual transfer cases, that monthly you should engage it for 10 miles or so, then disengage.

That being said, the new trucks are electronic and I don't know if it makes a difference but I engage and disengage after 10 miles or so.

Like you said, keeping parts lubed would be a good idea to me. A high mileage 10 year old truck is just as bad as a low mileage 10 year old truck.

You can drive on hard pavement as long as it is straight.

    This

I do this when driving down a long stretch of road where I know I won't have to make a tight turn.

Yup. I didn't do this with my last truck and the motor that engages the front diff froze up. $400 fix.

Get going on a 45 mph straight road, flip into 4WD for a couple seconds, then back out. Do the same with 4Lo in a parking lot or something. Also for the rear locker if you have it.

I fish every week and always turn it on. Sometimes it's an few mile. Sometimes for an few second.

Should be enough for the lube to cycle.

Use it or lose it... is the thinking.

Yes, you can be in 4WD on pavement, just don't turn (much).

Anytime you are off pavement, and even if you don't need the traction of 4WD, go ahead and use 4WD. Going into Low Range and also activating the Rear Locker (if you have the Off Road TRD) is a good idea regularly.

Totally agree on the locker. Totally didn't touch my locker for about an year. Was an pita to get it to engage for the first time. Now I just put my truck in N and go into 4L and press the locker. Engage instantly without any issue.
