Anyone have trouble engaging the 4wd on their TRD Sports? When I do It seems like the pedal is stiffer and I when I out It in reverse I have To hit the gas way harder and it barely moves. Wondering what y’all have to say because My second gen didn’t have any of these problems.
    Thanks in advance

    Two questions:
    1. Are you in a condition where you need 4WD or are you on dry pavement?
    2. Are you turning sharply when this happens?

Driving straight and no just driving through a slightly muddy yard. Probably not the best condition to use it but I would Like to engage it every now and then to make sure everything still works

Part time 4WD will and does require more hp, especially at slow speeds. It did in my 2016 4Runner and it does in my Tacoma too. Thats why you get crap mog when in 4Wd.

If you are turning on non slick surfaces then you will put additional stress, and consequently some binding, on the inside turn wheels because now the front and rear are mechanically locked but go different distances through the turns.
    That's all i got lol.

Did you buy your Tacoma used? Any accidents? I ask this cause I had a Jeep with a bent front driveshaft and it was hard to get it going due to it binding up. Just making sure you didn't buy someone's weekend toy that ended up at the used car lot.

Sounds like it's binding somewhere. You have to power through the bind. I've been in 4wd in mine and it's butter smooth and sometimes I use it on the straight road to work due to it being very mountainous and get super icy. Even turning into work is fine. Now with that said, I have accidently turned into a parking spot totally forgetting that I had it in 4wd and it does bind on hard pavement. I think you are binding in some way. I would take it back to the dealer and see what's up.

Yeah, I'm thinking that some things you shoulld Not buy used. You know, Corvettes and Off Road trucks. Unless you know exactly what you are getting, they could be a real pile of worn out crap.

I bought my 2016 OR 4x4 used from a doctor in Atlanta who traded it in for a BMW after 30K miles. I feel pretty comfortable that my truck never left the pavement before I bought it.

Dunno what the problem is but it doesn't sound normal. In a straight line, my truck feels exactly the same in 2Hi and 4Hi.

Yea but the owner couldn’t have done too much damage in less than 10k miles, plus it’s a sport 4x4 so it shouldn’t have been off road much if any

This is not the best logic I have ever heard. As an ex auto tech 99% of people that own a 4wd anything don't know how to get it into 4wd and most corvette owners are old men who put around in them. A lot of people can't afford new or don't want to go into debt for something that only depreciates in value.

I would if I were you follow the engagement procedure to a T and see if that helps. If you are having what is sounding like binding problems take it to a dealer it should be under warranty still. There are so many things it could or could not be, it is hard to internet jockey guess without replicating the problem and being able to see it 1st hand. As an auto tech we would call this the shotgun method just throw everything at it until something sticks and it fixes it.
