    BLUF: 2017 4WD selector extremely loose and can slide from 2WD to 4WD with no resistance.

    long story short years ago I replaced the chrome rings on all my knobs. After putting the 4WD back together it effortlessly was able to cycle, a drastic difference than before. I’ve done some research and was looking for some expert(ish) assistance from the team here. I think I have the right part in the link below. My concern is the last part of the truck number PRTSHA doesn’t match up to anything in the searches. Any help or advice, as always, is appreciated.

    Part number is 89533, list for part link: https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/par...ter.html?filter=(1=2GRFKS;4=LIMD;6=6FC;7=DCB)

    Photo of the part options. I’m thinking the last one of the three.

    Yeah, tried to update it but the link didn’t change. I added the part number in the post as well. No big deal if anyone isn’t able to help. I’m gonna buy one of the two listed next paycheck so I have a few more weeks to try and figure this out. Thanks for the heads up. Updated it with a photo of the parts

    That sucks. I know of a parts expert @Jeff Lange who might be able to help. He’s a wizard with part numbers :rofl:. Anyways I just bought a new AJT knob. Do you know what you did wrong for that to happen? No offense or anything, but I would like to avoid that happening to me if possible when I go to install it.

    Sorry, I don’t. I wish I knew what I did or what I broke that way I don’t repeat the process on the next one.

    Oh I gotcha. No worries. Maybe try taking it back apart again and watching a video? Check the spring in there maybe? Just some thoughts

    89533-04030 is for 4WD trucks without TRD Off-Road or TRD Pro packages
    89533-04041 is for 4WD trucks with TRD Off-Road or TRD Pro packages
    89533-04051 is for 2WD trucks with TRD Off-Road package (the 4WD computer also controls the rear diff lock, which is why a 2WD truck would have a 4WD computer)

    The PRTSHA part of the model code defines characteristics about the vehicle, but is rarely used in the parts catalog.

    P = Double Cab
    R = Standard Bed (note: this is not about bend length, all Tacomas have R)
    T = 6-Speed Automatic, Floor Shift
    S = SR5 (this includes SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, etc., everything except Limited on 2016-2023 models)
    H = DOHC and D-4S Sequential Fuel Injection Engine with Atkinson Cycle
    A = USA Destination (this includes Canada, Mexico, as well as other destination packages)

    Jeff
