Based on what I'm finding the transmission control relay is responsible for running the ADD on manual transfer case trucks, I'm not sure why they call it that but I believe ADD relay would be a more proper name for it.
    See if the connector matches.

Interesting it looks like it faces the rear of the truck, it faces the front on a 2nd gen.

I wonder if I can put much longer vent hoses on the ADD and run them all the way up into the engine bay to prevent water damage again. It’s pretty often that I’m driving through deep water. I wonder if having a really long vent tube would hinder its ability to evaporate water correctly or would it still function properly hmm.

Tomorrow around none we’re taking off the ADD I bet the motor has broken off it’s contacts. Hopefully it’s a real easy fix and I can just return the new ADD I bought online for $360. I’ll post again what we find tomorrow

You can run longer vent hoses, that is what all the 4WD mud running community does….

I got a kicker for you guys

we took off the rack n pinion today to get to the actuator. I think the rack is damaged bc metal flakes in power steering system and turning is much stiffer than a brand new perfectly running truck. The power steering works but i for sure can’t turn the wheel with the strength of one finger like my little brothers 2001 taco he has almost exact same truck as mine.

anyways we got the ADD off and openned it up and it looks flawless inside. No moister or rust or anything like that at all, there’s dabs of grease through out it which look factory still so I don’t think the ADD was even broken but I bought a new one anyways already so I’ll probably throw new one on and keep old as backup -_-

here’s the diagnostics for the front diff though …

When it looks like this, I was spinning the passenger cv and it was spinning the teeth and not spinning the other cv or the slide sheath

When it’s like this my little brother was spinning the driver CV and it was spinning the slide sheath but not my passenger CV axle. (Pretty sure when it’s like this if I spun my side it would spin the internal teeth but not the slide sheath)

And when it’s like this, the resistance was much harder so pretty sure it’s all lined up correctly, and when one cv axle was spun, it would spin the opposite cv axle IN REVERSE…. also the little slide sheath isn’t crazy easy one finger free sliding like how it should be (YouTube examples). We kinda had to shimmey rock back n forth either CV to make the sheath be able to rock side to side easily.

I have no idea what any of this means but I’m about to start researching. Whyyy TF would the wheels spin in reverse motion of one another when aligned ‍‍‍

That's how a differential works, if you hold the driveshaft and turn one wheel the other will turn the opposite direction.
The sliding coupler locks and unlocks the axle shaft to the output side of the differential, that's what the ADD moves to engage/disengage the front axle.

what you have circled appears to be on top of the intake, the 03 (possibly 02) and up don't have the vacuum line on that one

the previous owner could have also performed an ABS delete and ran lines directly to the rear, would need pics from the current brake booster (most 02+ had ABS but a few did not)

My little brother saw my truck yesterday and pointed out the fact that I do have ABS brakes! I think he said his version does not. I believe that all that potentially my front actuator Does not rely on a vacuum line because I think the motor inside of it just a moving for it

OK awesome that is good to hear. I think it is less broken in the night thought it was previously. It seems like a little slide sheath does not easily side to side unless I shimy the cv axles I’m getting a new rack and pinion and new cv axles for it. I want to do diagnostics on the differential if possible to make sure that everything is functioning as it should be so that it will all work when I put it back together

When is it is in 4L I try to move that front driveshaft with my hands and I do not have a physical strength to move it and don’t see the CV axles moving either.

I’m about to lose my mind trying to get this goddamn piece off the steering rack so it can get warranty returner to oRielly. I don’t see this part anywhere on the steering rack diagrams so I’m assuming it’s an aftermarket extension to make the tire rods work with the way wider wheel base on my pre runner ? I’m trying to find these online to check and see if I can just buy new ones but I’m not finding them anywhere so I can’t let these ones go

Pipe wrenches. I use them frequently with tie rods. I have 2 pipe wrenches at work , their sole purpose in life is tie rods.

    PS Sweet truck.

I had a inner tire rod remover kit and everything with a break bar and could leverage them off D; I surrendered them tonight with the rack trade in thinking I could find them easily on the internet and I’ve been scouring and can’t find jack shit. Im gonna go there in the AM first thing and try to bribe an employee to cut them out of the rack or something for me. I can’t imagine how much it’s gonna cost if I have to have someone custom make me these goddamn ;(

I’m straight up screwed I’m seeing other guys on the forum asking where to get something like this and nobody knows
