Hey guys, I have a 1999 4x4 with the optional rear locker and for some unusual reason, the 4wd will not engage. I have searched many old posts but unfortunately I am unable to find any information. I pull the lever into 4hi and the 4x4 light comes on for a fraction of a second but the front diff never engages. I can get the rear to lock up in 4lo but very perplexed. I am quite mechanically inclined and would appreciate any advice on where to start if possible. Thank you kindly!

It sounds like a problem with the ADD, but I don't know if the 1st gens had that. Do you have manual hubs? If you have automatic hubs, maybe they're broken?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Yes, the first gens had ADD, although some were also manual (early years).

How do you know the front is not engaging?

    Check for a vacuum leak.
