4wd won't engage in 04 (no push button)

hey guys, I need some help troubleshooting with my truck. 4wd won't engage high or low (it's a manual and there is a stick to put it into 4x4) when I put it into 4wd it makes a one clicking sound like it normally would but then nothing, no light and no 4wd. I've checked fuses and for obviously leaks in the hose. The only thing that I found curious was that I could easily pinch the hose with my finger but I'm not sure if that's normal. Any ideas on where to start and what to check would be great!

 

When you select 4x4 , there is a switch on top of your transfer case that tells the front diff to lock .
The only time the light on the dash will illuminate is when the front diff locks into the 4 wheel drive position .
Make sure the mechanism on the front diff is working

 

I'm not sure what the mechanism that you are talking aboit looks like?

 

If you follow the wiring from the transfer case to the front diff , you will see a switch box . Inside the switch box is a shifter fork that locks the front axle . There is an electrical switch on top of the actuator switch box that tells you when the truck is in 4x4 .
You need to verify the front axle is locking when you select 4x4 .
This would involve safely jacking your truck up off the ground so all 4 wheels can spin . Once you are off the ground , select 4x4 to verify all 4 wheels spin . This will eliminate the transfer case because you can visually see the front driveshaft turn
What hose are you speaking of ?
