Hi I got my 4x innovations bumper a month ago, but it came in just an unfinished metal (not painted).
Am I supposed to plasti dip it before I get it welded on?

Edit: it’s a slider, not bumper!

No. I personally don’t recommend the use of plastic dip or powder coats and stuff that is meant to be dragged and beaten. A couple of coats of rattle can should do the trick and will be easy to touch up.

Plasti dip is a terrible ide a for an unfinished bumper. Prime it and spray, rhino line it, do anything besides Plasti dip. It'll rust like you wouldn't believe with Plasti dip. When you get up welded on, they're going to grind off the paint and stuff in the area where they need to weld, after they're done touch it back up with whatever you used coated with initially

It would be extremally unusual for a bumper to be welded onto a vehicle. Paint is easy to touch up if you expect needing to do that often. Otherwise powder coat on a bumber is usually less than $200 (at least around here)

    4 run, 2 don't
    Nooooo

If it requires welding, you never paint it or coat it with anything with the exception of Steel It.

Fit up, tack, then fully weld as needed.

After sufficient cooling time, at the very least wipe down in acetone or mineral spirits. Knock off any spatter (if applicable), then primer as needed followed by paint.

Proper prep is key to proper paint adhesion.

Is there a reason why you'd weld it on instead of bolting it on? Also no, do not plastidip.

It’s a first gen Tacoma….I thought it was typical to weld it on? I got a 4x innovations one.

I have the same bumper on my 1st gen and I bolted it on. You never know when you'd need to remove it.

My goodness. I meant sliders. Not bumper. Does my advice change since they’re sliders?

Okay now it makes sense. I have my sliders welded, so I say go for it. Also do not plastidip those. I rhinolined mine.

Makes WAY more sense! Prep for welding, then follow @Kwikvette advise in his post above.

Tougher than paint, just as easy to touch up.

Those are the two that I use. Whatever I find at my local store. They get scratched up all the time so I'm always touching them up. Herculiner in my opinion is a little more beefy (if that makes sense lol)

I usually go for Rustoleum pro or Montana. And as @Kwikvette hands down steel it if you have those Benjamin’s available. Just make sure you wear some sort of mask. Cheers!
