I’m trying to install a 12k winch and thought I might be able to fit the badlands apex with the control unit relocated. The winch comes with all the hardware and cable to relocate the control unit, so it should be easy.

After getting the thing test mounted, the winch body does just barely fit, but I don’t think there is a good spot for the control unit. I couldn’t find any specs for it online or in the manual, but he control unit is roughly 6.5x12.5x4.5 inches for anyone wondering. it could be mounted on top of the bumper, but not with the grill in place. if you’re willing to chop your grill you could probably fit it. I’d hoped that it would fit in the space under the battery, but it’s too long. Secondary issue is the engagement handle, which would have to be modified to fit the winch body in the bumper. I just removed it to do a test fitting, but it would take some significant modification to make the engagement handle work.
If anyone has any other suggestions for mounting it I would be happy to hear them, otherwise I’ll be downgrading to a smaller unit.

Can it go to the left or right of the winch tucked in the bumper? I ended up cutting the grill and have no regrets. Kinda like the look but to each their own. Other than that I have no ideas unless you found a slimmer winch controller.

I tried putting it off to the side but you’re stuck needing to cut off the damn fog light mount in order to fit it.
I wish they didn’t even put those light mounts on the bumper, nobody needs them. I thought about Fabinho a custom grill, it’s just a cheap ass piece of plastic anyways. Too Many projects to take that on

Yeah, that winch is pretty big. I couldn’t relocate so I cut my grille. My bumper also has more depth so easier to make fitIMG_4993.jpg

Are there any winches that will fit in this bumper without relocation of the control unit? It’s hard to find good information online.

A lot of winches have smaller control boxes that are easier relocate- probably most that are 8000 lb-9000 lb are fine in terms of their footprint, most winches have the same bolt pattern to mount to the bumper/plate, and get the ones where the control box isn’t actually part of the winch’s cross bars

Almost every winch will have info online regarding its dimensions, do your research

Heres a couple pictures of how I cut mine. Just remember you'll have to cut wide on the driver side so you can open the cover to turn the winch on.
