A bit of help needed. I've found that while in 4x low range my 2011 Taco has a warning beeper that's annoying as hell. I asked the dealer to turn off or disconnect but they say they can't/won't. I'll be spending quite a bit of time in 'sugar sand' in Florida in the near future and find it easiest (especially on the clutch) to just run in low range.

How do I make the noise go away???

    Thanks....

It's not properly engaged. Go to 4Hi, stop, shift to neutral, and then engage 4lo.

    I had mine translated.

It says, "I'm not in. I'm not in. I'm not in."

The after three times it starts saying, "Hey dummy, I'm not engaged! Hey dummy, I'm not engaged! Hey dummy, I'm not engaged!"

Then after that it's too foul to repeat.

Thanks ... seems to have been operator error. "read the manual" ... what a concept! Do you think that'd work with this damned computer? I usually just hit it with a hammer when it doesn't do what I want:rimshot:

I way prefer the old stick on the floor to this switch on the dash ....

PS re. the why 4 low ... as noted in the OP, deep dry super fine sand. Taking off in 4 hi is a good way to burn up the clutch.

FIRST: You must be in N (Neutral) not P (Park) when you go into or out of Low Range... otherwise it will beep alerting you that you are NOT in L4! If you are a manual tramsmission, then the clutch must be fully depressed.

In sand, you need to FLOAT and not DIG IN.

To float, you usually need to let air out of your tires... 10-15 psi is typical for very soft sand. Mud tires or 3 ply sidewall tires need more air removed to float than AT or street tires.

To not dig in, you should be in HIGH RANGE, as low has too much low end torque and you will spin your tires and bury yourself.... deflating will help stop this.

With the tires floating, you can drive over sand in 4WD High just fine.

IF you do get stuck because you failed to do the above steps, then A-TRAC can drive you out of the stuck, since it is true 4WD and not just one tire in front and one in the rear spinning/ digging you in.

There is a video of an FJ in 'sugar sand' at full pressure... but not getting stuck because he is using A-TRAC and all 4 tires are spinning together... powering him through... Letting air out would have made it easier, but he was testing the system at 32 psi.

    Obviously not!

Plus, the manual falls WAY short on details... Otherwise, there wouldn't be a need for half of the posts here on TW!! LOL

You didn't read ALL of the post???

He wanted to be in L4 for sand driving!

So, I not only reminded him how to get into L4 (without a beeper).. but went one more step and informed him how to better drive in sand (or at least try it the way we on the west coast have for 50 years).:)

You know, provide all the help he needs, or will need... just in case... Also, he isn't the ONLY person reading our answers... Ever think of that?
