Dedicated this thread for 4x2 D-Cab TRD Sport Thread soon to be owner.

Why do you choose 4x2 V6 DCSB TRD Sport over other trim/grade?

For me, I don't need a truck, but I WANT a truck. I don't do off road. This will be my daily driver and haul home depot stuffs for around the house projects. Go fishing/camping a few times/year.
4x2 V6 D-Cab TRD Sport is cheaper than a 4x4 V6 SR5 that doesn't have all the cool stuffs in the trd sport grade. Plus, 2wd might get better gas mileage too :)

    I think it looks cooler in the wilderness . . . You know, . . . . When off-roading . . . .

Same here. I just wanted to get off the ground, have a little style, and have some fun when I want too.
I wouldn't expect any better gas mileage.

I loved my 4x2 TRD sport. then I moved to a hilly town with bad snowy winters. Had to upgrade to 4x4

Now that the sport is confirmed with a push start, this configuration is most likely what I'll get unless the employee pricing on a Canyon is just too good to pass up + 30 more hp and better MPG. I'll have to drive both though.

I'm like you. The most off-roading I do is dirt roads and camping trails and festival/fairgrounds parking. The ALSD is more than I currently have in my 2004 Matrix which has zero on-road or off-road traction control, and even that's been mostly sufficient, as long as the ground wasn't wet from rain or snow. I can't justify paying another $3k upfront and $20-40 extra in insurance for something I'll most likely never have a use for. I might even *gasp* lower it. 4x2 it is!

I want a reliable vehicle that can tow my band's 3,000 lbs trailer without being difficult to park or maneuver on the road every day, and when I test drove a Canyon, it felt like a big rig compared to the 2015 Tacoma Sport I test drove the same day, despite all reviews saying the GM twins were more car-like. The only thing I can say I actually loved about the Canyon over the Tacoma was the steering wheel. But the Tacoma steering wheel is very nice too, and it looks like they kept it mostly the same for 2016. Everything else about the Tacoma was an improvement over the Canyon IMO, even the manual seats.

I like the look of the hood scoops, and they look even better on the 2016, with it being mostly inset into the hood instead of sticking up out of it. The tighter Sport suspension is supposed to corner better than the OR and standard suspensions, which I like. I also want a sunroof. It's one of the biggest reasons I've held out for the 2016.

Other seemingly insignificant reasons once added together have made the 2016 the obvious choice over the 2015: slightly better mpg, locking tailgate and glove box, hand brake instead of foot parking brake, tailgate dampener, better angle on the touchscreen to (hopefully) reduce glare, multifunction display in the gauge cluster, HID headlamps, heated side mirrors, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, and the Qi charging which should help reduce cable clutter. Each of those things by itself would not be able to totally sway me to the 2016. All of them together, though? Sold.

I've already ordered a 2016 4X2 DCSB. I'll be a faithful follower of this thread in about 5 weeks.

Gonna be a long five weeks, I'm sure. I'm in line for a promotion in the near future, so I'm holding out for that extra $5 an hour. I'll probably have some questions for you once you have one in your possession. You getting the sunroof? JBL?

The gas mileage on Colorado/Canyon are horrible according to the forums. People are not even getting close to what EPA has stated. Hopefully Tacoma will get closer to EPA numbers, that has yet to be determined obviously

Excellent choice for your intended use. I have 4 wd now by necessity but, my favorite Toyota truck of the seven I have had, was a 2 wd v6 extended cab. They ARE quicker, more economical, handle and ride better then their 4 wd bretheren. If you don't need 4 wd....eveything else is so much better it is the obvious choice...I am envious !!! The Sport comes with lower profile tires and suspension that IMHO, enhance the road performance of the truck which is where yours will spend it's days. The 2wd v6 in the sport is an ideal configuration.

It is still a toyota with 9 inches of ground clearance and LSD in the back. It will still serve you well for light excursions you plan.well thought out on your part.

I expect people to get better mileage then EPA with Toyota. When I saw the numbers, I thought they were VERY conservative considering all the mechanical, weight and aerodynamic changes they have made.
