Do what you want. Stop listening to folks hating on you because you have a new truck and live at home.

I'd keep it and be happy you have a NEW truck. Not many people have that luxury, then again it's your life not ours. I'm glad I have 4x4 but I am in the rust belt without buyers remorse. (Ok sometimes I wish it was MT)

From your post sounds like you'd be willing to take a trade in loss just to have a 4x4. Put the money in the bank or investments.

You sound young...so you will have many more vehicles in you lifetime.

Well shit...buy it before you're six feet under.

I didn't even have a new car until I was in my early 30's.

Certainly the smarter forward thinking decision but I'll argue the other side. Life is short, and if the OP is one of those people who needs to love what he drives then he should do it. I can't fathom having a car solely for transportation or to fill a utility need. I take a ton of pride in the truck and genuinely love the thing. It sounds like the OP won't ever really love his truck because it's lacking something he wants and would actually use.

Wait for the 2018 and trade up for Toyota Sense and possibly better lockers that don't get recalled.

Probably not.. just some safety tech features but hell why not wait a little bit more. Save a little more along the way.

What dealership did you get yours from? I got mine on 4/24 and only have 1200 miles lol you are definitely getting your use out of yours quickly! Honestly I think you're fine with the 4X2. Unless you want to start hitting hard trails with uncertain terrain and need to get yourself out of tough situations. How many times a year are you making trips up to the snow? if you lived in a place that was constantly snowing then I could see the need for it but for a couple trips a year and if you stay on the road its fine. Sounds like you take pride in your truck so why 4X4 it and put it through hell if its your daily driver?

BTW I took my truck out to fiesta island last weekend for the first time! Good times over there!

Toyota of El Cajon thru the Costco auto program. They're 10 minutes from my house. From personal experience make sure you at least power wash the under side after going to fiesta. My last truck had rust from all the salt and sand sitting on the bottom and never being washed off that I didn't know about till I totaled it.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Buy a Subaru -- they have many sizes -all but one is a AWD. the are great vehicles! This is a possible solution if you can do without a pickup.
and BTW we have a 15 Subaru Outback --that is fantastic on snow and ice. I actually would not would want to compete against it with my Basic 4x4 SR5--that is-- in city driving snow conditions!

    Like, so many.
I could not imagine having a new car in college. I guess if you can afford it, get what you want. Don't get in to too much debt though. You know what the great philosopher Tyler Durden said: the things we own end up owning us.

Op, I did something similar just recently. Part of me says do it!
But in all seriousness you will take a large hit probably 60%-70% of your down payment gone, so definatley your payments will go up. Big debt at a younger age is a tough hole to dig out of at any age it's tough. What would the ramifications be with your landlords?? Hmmm, Crunch the #s!
If 4x4 is a must can a less optioned out truck work as that will be the only way to not have payments go up. I went from a 16 dbl cab SR5 2.7 4x2 to a 17 dbl cab V6 4x4. My payments went up 100.00 a month for 60 months no cash out of pocket
As others have said you only go around ounce, BUT?
    Pictures are a must!
