4x4 advice ?

    Ok, so it's a common misconception that 4wd with open diffs is "really 2wd".

    What it boils down to is an open diff supplies close to equal torque to both wheels, but allows them to rotate at different speeds if needed like when you turn.

    It takes very little torque to spin a tire on ice, let's say for example 10ft•lbs. Because of how open differentials work, the other wheel will only get 10ft•lbs as well. If this isn't enough to move the vehicle, it won't.

    Both wheels are getting torque, it's just not enough to move because one is spinning due to lack of traction.

    Exactly but he got the point across. Actually it works pretty well. I was in a wet tall grass field a few weeks ago. Went to pull across side slope started spinning and the wheels started braking and I just went right across easy peasy.
