03-04 V6 Auto PreRunner? You’re going to run into issues with the ETCS-I electronic throttle system those trucks run, you can only use 2003/2004 v6 A340F transmissions.

If you’re Manual, any R150F will work.

Yes 03 prerunner with auto trans
The 2000 4funner only has axle part no trans or case should I still pick up the front end it only about $400 with sway bar breaks caliper s CVS biff spindles and hubs. Or what to find a better doner

No, it’s not a good donor. Really the only useful parts left on that thing would be the front differential (assuming the gear ratio is the same as your rear, you can’t mismatch), the front driveline, and the shifter assembly. You don’t need brakes, sway bar, or anything else that vehicle has.

I recommend you go for a manual hub system rather than the ADD system found on the 4Runner for ease of installation. If you use the auto system you’ll have to worry about plumbing the vacuum switching valves, relays, etc.

Just to reiterate, you can only use a 2003-2004 A340F with the electronic kick down (ETCS-I). Or you can swap the valve body or output shaft from your A340E over to your basic A340F. The latter is not easy, you have to tear down the transmission into pieces.

    Some reading material...

As for ADD and having to run vac and all that assorted stuff - might want to review that thread I just listed. Note the OP kept ADD and in fact has it setup where it works without vac.

Not saying its easy and its certainly going to require some creativity. I went the manual hub route and I'm fine with it but damn if sticking with ADD doesn't sound interesting. Oh and yeah, his PreRunner is an 04.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Get a complete Donor vehicle .

That can at least be driven enough to test that the 4x4 system works correct.

Nothing like installing parts that no longer work.

    Workin' on it ;)
Gonna give you the best advice that @Area51Runner gave me and that is to look around for a similar vehicle as yours, specifically 03-04 Tacoma for the transmission. As far as your t-case goes, as long as it is a manual j shift which i think 96-02 4Runners have and 96-04 tacomas too (folks can correct me on this). And for the front diff same years from models above as long as its the same ratio as your rear diff.

Look thru junk yards, i just managed to pick up all 3 components (t-case, trans and front diff) from car-part.com plus the front driveshaft. Also if you’re looking to keep ADD, you’re gonna be doing a lot of work. Best recommendation is to go manual hubs. If you really want the experience of ADD you may want to look into an air locking or e locking diff from ARB or Harrop. East Coast Gear Supply will take your diffs if you send them in and they’ll do all the leg work so all you do is receive it and install and wire up. I’m thinking about this route way down the road once i recover financially from sourcing all my parts for the conversion lol

Here are some good reads for folks here that have completed a 4x4 conversion on their pre runners:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/another-prerunner-4x4-conversion-thread-my-2004-build.722859/

This thread really goes into depth about transfer cases which really helped me out:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1st-gen-transfer-case-identifcation-for-replacement-swap.753707/

Finally, if you decide to go the manual hub route, this fella here does an amazing job at converting old spindles to shiny new manuals, you can even send in yours I believe and he’ll send you a list of items you may want included on yours:

I have an extra set of knuckles, ADD hubs and OEM ADD CVs. Would just need bearings and I could test out the whole ADD w/o vac. How he put it, really straight forward.

I just don’t want to pull the diff and swap back in the actuator lol.

If you can find one. I would just start snatching up components. Waiting to find an 03/04 taco at a reasonable price might be tough depending on your regional availability. For you the toughest is going to be the transmission. The rest of the components are readily available. Re-use your PreRunner steering knuckles. Get yourself a pair of manual hubs (or ADD if you choose to go that route), bearings/seals and lockouts (again, dependent on ADD or not). Locate a transfer case and a front differential that matches your rear gear ratio. Then start wrenching.
