    Hi,

I have a 05 dbl cab v6 4x4... yesterday I was planning to do same trail for the first time this spring. When it come the time to engage the 4x4 It doesnt. The transfert case make a sounds like if it want to engage but the power doesnt go to front weel... I'm not that stupid and I try situation possible to try to engage it for around 20 minutes and nothing happen except the sound make by the transfert case when its engaging... It sound weird because I use it several times all winter long and I use it 2 days ago 4x4 hi and low without any issue.... Do anyone had this probleme before or what could be the source of this problem...

    Front diff actuator?
Mine went bad & needed to get replaced.
The 4x4 light would just flash no matter what I did to get it to engage.
    Neither 4hi or lo worked.
One day it did the next day it didn't.
    Dealer fixed under warranty.

I'm at 25k miles and have had the front diff actuator and the transfer case actuator replaced and I still have this problem sometimes.
When my warranty expires I'm going to buy the extended warranty.

Well I brought mine in for the 3rd time with this problem..
They brought in a technician to determine the cause.. and he concluded that I had "submerged" my truck. He saw that I had extended the rear diff breather, and that I have a snorkel, so he assumed that I must have driven through some deep water.
I have never been in water more than 12" deep, and have never driven through anything that I havent seen other tacomas drive through.
They are refusing to do any work on it because they think it's my fault. Anyone have any advice?

well I called corporate and filed a claim yesterday, then when they called me today to explain all of this, I asked what course of action I have and they said I have none, that this will all be attached to my vin # when any dealer looks it up. I asked if I could set up an appointment to meet with this guy and for him to show me what evidence he has seen, and they said I could talk to the dealer and see if they would allow that, but that it is not neccessary because he has already seen what he needs to see.

Sounds like a cop out. The "technician" can't figure it out so, instead of appearing to look uneducated on this he made an assumption.

Their "proof" is that there is corrosion in the front diff actuator and t case.

I'm going to see what my options are before I spend $ on a lawyer, we'll see what happens

Thats not a issue - you just make a switch to activate the ADD - thats how I activate my ADD with my manual t-case in my tacoma.

i have the same issue with my truck and i bought it as a lease return from toyota with warranty. i took it back to the dealer to get the warranty work done and they voided it those F*%&ers. because of the lift and tires that are on it, the lift and tires i bought it with!!!!

I recommend everyone contacting Toyota. Tell them that on the next Gen of Tacoma, you want an actual floor mounted T-Case shifter, and Manual Locking Hubs! No electronics for the 4x4 system.

Haha! Probably true, and very sad.
Should at least be a factory option.

    In the beginning:

Manual Locking Hubs replaced Live Hubs.
Automatic Locking Hubs replaced Manual Hubs.
The ADD (Shift-On-The-Fly) replaced Auto. Hubs.

    It is evolution...

You want to go BACK to manual hubs?

Why not perfect the ADD to not fail...?

I must say, on my three Off Road 4WD Tacomas, with a total of 264,000 miles, I have NEVER had an ADD failure or failure to get into 4WD.

In my 25,000 miles with my one 2010 4x4 Tacoma, I have had it back to the dealer 3 times for failure to get into 4WD. I never had a single problem with either of my last two GM vehicles, and I DO NOT beat the shit out of my truck. I ONLY wheel with other tacomas, and they can vouch that I dont "submerge" my truck, or wheel stupid
