Wheelspin of 30MPH causes AUTO LSD to engage or disengage regardless of your mode selection ?

OZ, should I be in on this too??? LOL

I blame Toyota for the names they gave the traction and stability controls and settings as they make it complicated.

TRACTION CONTROLS (to help you move ahead). Normally on, can be turned off by stopping, and holding in the VSC switch for a few seconds:

TRAC and AUTO LSD are two levels of the same thing (in 2WD): traction control (aka limited slip).

*TRAC is limited slip and engine output regulation.
*AUTO LSD has no engine output regulation. AUTO LSD is turned on with a quick press of the VSC switch, moving or stopped.

In 4WD-HIGH (2009-2011 Tacomas) TRAC is the same level as AUTO LSD, just on all 4 wheels... so limited slip and no regulation.

2012+ Tacomas changed the wording and features a bit, as I understand it they made TRAC in H4 to have regulation and ADDED AUTO LSD for the non regulated traction control, which was just called 'TRAC' before... (?) I haven't been behind the wheel of a new 4WD Taco to confirm this personally.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STABILITY CONTROL (to help you not spin-out/ roll-over):

Called VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), it is normally on in H2 and H4 (except in AUTO LSD mode, see below).

It can be turned off by stopping and holding down the VSC switch for a few seconds (this also turns off traction control). VSC will automatically come back on if you drive in a 'dangerous' manner.

It goes off in AUTO LSD mode, until you reach 30 mph when it comes on automatically.

In my experience (I have an 05 though). I have found the engine output regulation is tied to the VSC system. If my "VSC off" light is on, I still have TRAC but no slide control or engine regulation. If VSC is on, I have slide control and engine output regulation.

Maybe in the deep specifics of it, they are separate, but as far as application they seem to be part of the same system.

The system that was an option in '05 is not the same as when they made it standard in '09. I had an '05 that I thought had everything on it, but there was no VSC or TRAC. I learned here on TW that it was optional on some models before 2009.

All I know is with the 5 second hold switch turn off if you are in 2wd in snow and spin the tires to over 30 MPH all the techno wizardry comes back on and the wheels stop spinning. You let off the gas and it goes back to your previous setting. Had it happen to me many times this winter when driving in 2-3 foot deep snow banks.

You must have only pushed the button

I drive in VSC OFF mode all the time because of an oversenditive VSC issue , what you describe is what happens when you push the button instead of hold , or maybe you weren't stopped , pushing and holding while moving won't work that acts the same as just pushing the button
