Just curious... why do you feel the need to engage 4WD on dry pavement?

    A couple of things..

    1) 4WD in the snow yes, as mentioned, the front pulls you where you want to go.

    2) 4WD on pavement .. as long as your not turning it's fine. Personally I wouldn't but it won't break anything if you keep it straight.

    3) Oz is old, yes.

    4) 4LO to pull a tractor on solid ground, no turning? Sure, use the torque, that's what it's there for.

    5) Marklar .. I missed something somewhere.

    6) You should engage 4WD for 10-15 miles every month.

I would worry about the possibility of destroying an axle or ring and pinion trying to pull a tractor/trailor... Now if it were just a tractor you would probably be ok, but the 2nd gens with the factory lockers like to occasionally blow up their R&P under just their own weight...

I watched a 2nd gen pull a loaded CT bus up the hill in snow/ice. 4 LO and take it easy.

    Different video:

Why would they use a chain ... but it works.

Were you in 4wd in your sig pic? Looks like you could bust a rear ring and pinion gear if you had the locker on, maybe worse cause you were jumping your truck the front cv's could break also?!
I'm just saying your telling these guys what not to do with 4wd and here your jumping your truck. I do like the pic by the way looks badass. There's lots of good points on here, I'm not talking $hit just saying to each their own.

    Thanks

    Brett

 you have a point. I'm not saying you should never pull the guy, just that I would be cautious pulling a tractor/trailer. I blew up my factory ring and pinion on stock tires on a regular paved road. 4.88's seem to be stronger. Guy in the video is on soft ground so that would allow wheel spin and prevent major damage.

And yes I was in 4wd in my pic. Long travel guys jump their rigs all the time and a lot harder than I was so ring and pinion and CVs were the least of my worries. Haha more like shocks, motor mounts, mounting points, frame etc... haha

    You don't need a dirt/gravel road...just don't make turns!

My truck is much more stable in 4x4 driving above 40 MPH in the snow. Can power through slides - in 2WD the traction control gives me severe understeer which I don't like.

You guys and your fancy factory switches... haha. 05 never came with one. On that note doesn't the traction control re-engage once you go over like 30 mph no matter how long you hold the switch?

To clarify , the VSC / Traction Control is always there in the background , push and hold the VSC button for 3-5 seconds and it is turned " off " and stays " off " at all speeds , however it is actually just greatly reduced in sensitivity and will not kick on unless you get seriously out of shape

Sounds good enough to me. I have no idea just have effective our VSC is at correcting our vehicles in really bad situations, but honestly if I were to have something happen doing high speeds on the freeway I think I would trust it more than my reflexes at those speeds.

Do you even have traction control? haha I thought '06 was when they added the disable switch to those that had the traction control systems.
