I’ve been running these since 2021. Originally installed because I was getting a trans temp error light when rock crawling in 4low on really hot days. The driver side fan is located between the radiator and trans cooler and forces a good amount of air thru the engine compartment. They are NOT temperature controlled the relays are triggered by the front camera switch because I only use the camera in 4low anyways. Also turning them on in traffic gets the ac ALOT colder lol.
THESE FANS ARE ONLY USED FOR 4low! I still have the factory clutch fan that does the trucks normal day to day cooling.

I’m assuming you’ve never had any issues with the fans impeding the cooling airflow at high or low speeds when those fans aren’t running?

I wouldn’t mind adding one to the condenser but remembering to turn it on and off probably wouldn’t be worth it to me.

Nope no issues at all, the fans blades just spin on there own as the wind passes thru to the radiator when they’re not on.

Thats why I wired them into front camera switch so that I clearly know when they’re on lol.
You could also just use the 4x4 knobs 4low wire to trigger the relay and never have to think about, But I wanted a little more control of activating the fans but didn’t want to see another switch for just 4x4 fans.
Also all my switches “time out” so I don’t have to worry if I leave things on.

That light is triggered by AT2 temperature sensor and related to SLU solenoid being off.
Not sure how your fan cool it down, cause if SLU solenoid is off, AT2 temp stays high and rising

If it a fairly common issue with these trucks that when in 4low and at a very steep angle (front bumper pointing up) the truck will shut off and flash a trans temp light. The truck can be restarted and the light will stay off until the same scenario is recreated again.

I believe this is caused by putting the truck at a steep angle causing the oil to collect away from the sensor. As well the additional load of the transmission being in 4low, and the extra heat that’s being generated. The trucks not actually moving fast enough to exchange air thru the engine compartment (rock crawling) a lot of the heat stays. To make matters even worst when in that situation most are having to use a good amount of throttle to pull thru an obstacle similar to what’s mentioned above.
The two 10” fans help move outside air thru the engine compartment and trans cooler, especially when the truck is idling in that position and the clutch fan is not doing much.

Yes Sir! I’m in El Segundo it’s just past LAX.
Rowher Flats is one of my favorite spots to offroad over there.

Do you have a link to the fans you used?

the reason Im being skeptical is that for 6+ years I was staring at OBD2 parameters while playing with VFtuner.
I know that 2017 ECU calibration keeps SLU solenoid off in 1st, 2nd gears in D and 1,2,3rd in 4low.
If SLU solenoid is in OFF status, the AT2 temperature sensor is going up and will going up until SLU solenoid is turned on and AT2 temp is getting close to AT1 temps (the one that is controlled by tranny thermostat)
Later ECU calibrations have SLU to turn ON in 2nd gear in D. Not sure about 4low.

But I wish the truck would use e-fans. More efficient.

I totally understand your skepticism. We have an obstacle that can create the issue and it did it on two separate Tacomas back to back (one mine) and both flashed the light and needed to be restarted. We both returned but my truck had the fans installed and his did not he flashed the light when he attempted and my did not with the fans running. Now my truck and his truck have the additional fans and neither one of use have seen the light since.

Again this is specific to 4low and very steep angles and hot days. Both of the trucks tested never had transmission issues at any other time.
Wish I could provide you with a more exact answer, as it seems you have a great knowledge of the Tacoma's order of operations. But all I have is my real world testing.

I bought mine back in 2021 from Amazon but that seller/item is not there anymore. I used to two cheap 10” automotive fans. Because they’re not responsible for actually regulating the truck temperature and only used once in awhile I wouldn’t worry about buying expensive ones.
But here’s a link to a pair of 10” fans very similar to what used. I only buy the fans because I prefer to use my own wire so everything’s an exact fit so you’ll need two relays also.

Ok cool. I already have a very good e fan as my main engine fan, but it’s almost too good if that makes sense. Its extremely loud and annoying lol. I want to add one that I can activate when my ac is on go help it out, thank you!

Lol I had the same issue on another truck I had switched the clutch fan for an expensive e-fan and it was the only thing I could hear from the driver seat when it turn on. These two 10” fans are so much quieter I only hear them about 2-3ft away from the front grill as you can see from the video.
I’ve turned the fans on while sitting in traffic and the a/c does get noticeably colder.
