    This in my owners manual:

    ■Four-wheel drive usage frequency
    You should drive in four-wheel drive for at least 10 miles (16 km) each
    month.
    This will assure that the front-drive components are lubricated

    Nope, members here are giving correct info, not 'wrong' info.

    Infrequently used bearings, gears and actuators should be exercised every so often...... not just for a vehicle, but anything mechanical.

    I do this to my transmission.... exercised every gear once in a while.

    Luckily in New England it's snowing 8 months out of the year, but during the other months its very easy to find some mud/gravel/grass.

    Not sure what the debate is about this information, it seems obvious that unused parts (i.e. the 4wd components) need to be used to stay healthy. Ever park your car/truck for 2 weeks and when you go to move you feel the rust on the rotors and the wheels break free?

    I guess it depends where you live, but there's always a lawn to drive through...
