    Has anyone encountered this before.
    2006 Tacoma SR5 4x4 Access Cab

I've been diagnosing the 4x4 not engaging while the engine is running. I've discovered that if I set the switch to the desired position before turning the key, that the actuator will switch on or off as selected when the key is turn to the on position. If I continue to start, the 4x4 engages and works normally. I can then switch 4x4 off but not back on again, unless I take the key out and start the above procedure over again. I'm figuring there has got to be some sensor that is bad? I can hear the actuator moving and I hear no indication that something is sticking (combined with the fact that the key position makes the difference when switching on, mostly).

Probably a dirty/corroded limit switch contact, first check the vent hoses on the actuators. If one is disconnected or cracked that actuator probably got water in it, if those are good check your limit switch voltages as outlined in the thread below and post your results so we can see what we need to be looking at.
