Just putting this out here so people in the future have some info and help with diagnostics....

    '13 TRD sport DCLB Automatic

I was out scouting for geese last night and took a seasonal road that required 4x4. Truck went into 4x4 no issues. Turned around to head back to paved road and when I switched back to 2 Wheel, I could not hear/feel 4x4 disengage and both 4x4 lights remained flashing regardless of selector switch position.

Did some searching on here to get me headed in the right direction, tried rolling forward and back and switching through 4x4 modes to no avail. Unhooked the battery for a few minutes and tried again, nothing. Pulled fuse and checked it, not the issue.

Finally I did some more careful inspection of the transfer case area (best I could on a back road with only a headlamp for light). Checking connections and on the plug on the wiring harness going into the transfer case/(actuator?) I found a corroded/broken wire. That was my culprit!

Thankfully there was a guy fishing the pond I was scouting who lived nearby. I took the truck to his house and using his tools and supplies was able to splice the wire back together and band-aid it with some electrical tape. That solved it and I got back into 4x2 and was able to drive home.
I did NOT want to try driving dry pavement the 20 miles home stuck in 4x4.

Forgive me for not knowing the actual 100% name of the parts I was working on (located on driver's side, basically directly under center console area). Does anybody know how much of a job it is to replace that wiring harness? I can add pics later if it helps.
