K about all this talk about "don't drive in concrete your drivetrain will exlode!"...

Have you guys ever gone rock crawling? Moab? Those rocks have just as much grip as pavement. If I can do turns in moab, with the rear diff locked, in 4 low, all 4 tires in complete contact with the ground, on aired down 35/12.5" wide tires on a hot day(that's a large contact patch), it's very unlikely you guys are going to break anything by making a turn in a parking lot. Your tires will slip before your tcase chain jumps. That would be the weak point.

Not saying it's a good idea, and yes, try to avoid it. But our trucks aren't made out of pop cans also.

You are wasting your time with logic like that. There's a picture of a blown transfer case from a Grand Cherokee circulating on the internet - supposedly happened at highway speeds in 4wd, dry pavement. That picture of one blown transfer case trumps the (literally) millions of unblown transfer cases that have done the same thing without incident.

Sit back, relax, enjoy the panic....

You bet ya.That picture is a New Process transfer case it is what the US manufactures put in everything from Chevy to Jeep however they are not used in a Toyota. How many knuckle draggers drive those things? Do you for even a minute think they remember to take them out of 4WD? If they exploded on the highway there would be parts of them from NY to CA. About the only thing that would cause that kind of damage (other than running over something like a big rock) would be the chain breaking and that was not the case it’s still in one piece. That damage was not caused by leaving it in gear.

Why does Toyota say to do so 10 miles or more once a month?

Yes, the manual for my F-250 said "Do not corner on dry hard surface roads in 4wd."

I don't get this why does every one say "transfer case" it's probably the strongest of the 4X4 parts. If some thing is going to break it most likely would be a U joint. The binding is not the transfer case it's the tires that are binding up the little skip you feel are the tires slipping not the transfer case of course they bind they are trying to turn at different speeds when you make a tight arc. What do you thing is going on with a locker rear now that's some real binding too. I live in Maine we have 3 seasons winter, mud season and 3 months of bad sleading we all run 4X4 all winter long in every thing that has it you can't give away a two wheel drive truck. The only damage I have seen is when they think chains on all 4 wheels plowing is a good ideal that will take out CV/U joints cause the tires can't slip. What do you think drives pusher school buses and 5,000# old front drive Olds you guessed it a chain how fast will they go?

    Engrish?
The binding is present because of the type of transfer case. If it was an AWD case, no binding. It's not AWD with a differential, it's part time so the drivetrain binds.

    So you two agree.^^

The front and rear wheels are trying to spin different speeds when you're turning. Just like the left and right side tires are trying to turn different speeds.

I thought Jeep "Grand" Cherokee's had AWD? Did they go back to a PT 4WD? Or is it only certain models that have the AWD?

btw I've driven through snow at 60ish in 4-Hi, no sharp turns.

I also mostly leave the truck sit in summer when I ride the bike, and never engage 4wd unless it randomly hits me to try it.

Even after these random snows this past winter mostly kept it in 2wd

And I believe that warning sticker says not to "engage" the 4wd above a certain speed right?

I drive in 4x4 on dry pavement once a month on my way to work. 15 miles of straight road...why would I not use the opportunity to exercise my 4wd?

Living in concrete jungles doesn't afford us much opportunity so we get it while we can :(

On a side note since it was <15F degrees this morning I did use 4wd to get up some streets that were still covered, +1 for me :D
