4x4 issues

    Ok a buddy of mine has a 2003 Tacoma trd. His 4x4 isn't working. I went to take a look at it and noticed that the 4x4 indicator light is not coming on but the front drive shaft stil spins when the transfer case is put into 4 wheel drive. I think it may be the controler motor on the front axle because it has power but the front axle does not engage. I do have to say that i've never messed with the electriic control type front axles. By the way this truck is an auto trans with a manual transfer case. Any and all info will be greatly appreciated
