    Was the bearing the root issue or was the absence of oil the root issue?

    My thing is how can you monitor front diff oil levels?

    You shouldn’t have too. It’s a more or less sealed unit. Was it not making a lot of noise before failure?

    I’ve lived through 2 diff failures and both were preceded by a loud howling. Caveat: the 2nd time i saved it before total failure.

    Checking the under vehicle fluids every oil change is part of the multi-point inspection along with inspecting for any evidence of leakage.

    Daily you should monitor for wet spots where you park just as a matter of routine.
