I'm with you guys. We rarely have frost let alone snow so I find I'm kicking it on around my place on the gravel drive or when I'm driving around my property. I have it just in case & it provide some security because I do travel with it in area with a lot of snow a few times a year. But I guess it only occurrd to me after OP post (not that I've not seen it before), do I really need it?

I'd just turn the 4WDH on once a month for say 1/4 mile. Put in 4WDL twice a year.

Just jump on I-5, switch on 4WD for 5 miles North, turn it off, exit, U-Turn, turn it back on for 5 miles South, turn it off, go home, drink a beer.

Blame Toyota for this one - they only offer the manual in the 4x4, so people who insist on a manual by a 4x4. Toyota, in turn, says that people like the 4x4 so much, they must be a popular choice. Maybe, but the manual is also popular; they just tucked it into a 4x4 and are focusing on the wrong thing. They would probably see 30% of the 4x4 sales switch to 4x2 sales if the manual was available in the 4x2, and possibly an increase in 4x2 sales overall (how many manual transmission pickups are available, across all US availability).

I would have a manual, if not for the fact the 4x4 is of no use to me. My pickup sees gravel once or twice a year (aside from parking lots), so the additional expense, maintenance cost, and fuel cost were not enough to justify the more fun drivetrain :(.

I believe the Frontier and Colorado have the Manual available in 4x2s.
