Who can read these codes on doors stickers? I’m interested in purchasing a semi beat up 4x4 truck. It’s a 99 ext 3.4L auto 4x4. I want to convert my Prerunner with the 4x4 parts from this truck... then swap my Prerunner parts into this 4x4. My truck is a 2001 double cab 3.4L auto.

Here is the sticker for the truck I’m interested in. I’ll try to find a picture of my door sticker to add to this thread for compatibility purposes.

I'm going to disregard your picture and instead ask you; which way do you plan on converting your truck to 4x4?

You have the ADD system vs manual hubs

You have the j shift transfer case vs push button

Honestly, I will go whatever route is served on a convenient platter. Ideally....manual hub and j-shift. I like automation, but am unsure how tricky that swap would get.

Here are some pics of the potential purchase.

I’m currently doing a full restoration on my truck. Paint and interior. The parts from this truck would all be serviced and rebuilt where appropriate before installation on my truck.

I’m wondering about the gearing too. That is another minor concern.

What’s wrong with the truck being parted out?

Nothing according to the seller. It’s about 40 minutes away from me. I’m going to look at the truck soon. He’s selling the vehicle as a running and dependable daily driver. It’s cheap bc the body is beat up.

Damn I’d be all over that. These trucks out here even in that condition would bring a pretty penny.

but the gears should be the same. If it’s. at shift you should be fine with the swap. Just remember the add is a bit more work to get working
A lot more if the transfer case is push buton

It’s really sounding like a match made in heaven. The good news is that I would have a complete truck to slowly pull the parts and transfer over to my truck. I could be very meticulous like this to make sure everything is done just right. When the job is over I would have 2 running vehicles.

Most of it is all there. Wiring for the add will be a bit involved unless you can find an 01 harness. The 99 I believe will be different.

but you can have everything under the truck waiting for just wiring at that point. Or if it’s j shift you can try and wire it in (push button is a lot more involved)

The 99 is probably vacuum ADD, not electronic like the newer ones. I'm not sure on the year it changed to electric.

The advantage here is that he'd have the whole truck to pull parts from, so it could be done fairly easily.

    Exactly.
And yes it may be vacuum. I don’t know when the change was. 01 up for sure are electronic

I think you are correct... like always.

I just looked at the 2000 FSM and it shows a vacuum line attached to the ADD. It does have a wire harness connection, but I assume that is for the dash light.

In all honesty, I personally prefer manual hubs and would keep them, puts less strain on cvs and gets better gas mileage (ever so slightly). Also (from memory) I think they are stronger.

That truck has matching gear codes (4.10), Manual Hubs, and the correct A340F transmission.

    It’ll work.

So now I need to see some wiring diagrams... and learn to read them. This should help me learn what I may or may not need to do to make the electronics work. Is there a good resource for learning how to read and use the diagrams for projects like this? I would need a diagram for my 2001 prerunner auto and for the 99 non-pushbutton TRD auto. I suppose a diagram would somehow tell me if/how the harness changed btwn 99 and 01?

I saw the truck today and I'm probably buying it. There were some things about it that I didn't like for sure. That 3.4 has a few leaks that I think I'll be able to take care of. There was also some ATF seeping from the gasket around the bottom pan. Steering rack needed bushings like 12 years ago. Brakes are a little sketch. What matters the most is that the transmission shifted smoothly and the 4WD worked flawlessly.

You don't need any wiring diagrams. You don't need to wire or splice anything. The 4WD with manual hubs is purely mechanical. There are no electronics involved. The only electrical connectors you unplug are for the transmission itself, which are already on your truck.
