So good to hear. I was concerned that I may need to reconfigure some of the transmission harness. So my truck's harness will likely have all of the plugs for the j-shift actuator and other components? I guess all of these questions will be easily answered after I get to actually tear into the truck.

The truck also has a locking rear end. Is there a decent write up for that swap? My truck, though it had TRD stickers, is not a TRD.

You wanna make sure the front diff gear ratio matches your rear otherwise you're gonna have a bad time. Both stickers show B03A so that's good... the donor truck has a 4.10 front diff same as your rear diff

There is no j-shift actuator. Like I said, it is purely mechanical. Your parts truck has manual hubs, and a J-Shift transfer case. There are no actuators or motors involved in the 4WD system.

If you have a 3RZ-FE 2.7l with the TRD sticker, it's still a TRD. The four cylinders did not come with a locking rear end. Only Bilstein suspension. The easy way to wire the locking rear end is use a standalone harness from Low Range Off-Road.

You may be mistaking it for A.D.D (Automatic Disconnecting Differential) and 4WD-on-the-fly, which is pushbutton 4WD. Your parts truck is not configured for that. Only if it was is when you need to worry about wiring things. This is 100% bolt on, there is zero wiring, vacuum, or mechanical modifications you need to make. That is the easiest way I can put it.

The only things you maybe need to swap are the transmission temperature sensors.

The 4cyl TRD package didn't come with a rear locker but it may have been added as an option at purchase no? I know before TRD you could get a locker installed at time of purchase if desired on the 4x4 models regardless of 4 or 6 cyl

OP does the rear diff of the parts truck have the rear locker actuator on the outside of it? Post a pic from the front of the diff and we can tell you.

The only wiring modification you would need to make is extend the harness for the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). On the A340E, it is on the transmission body. On the A340F, it is on the transfer case tail section. Cut a 6" pigtail from your donor truck, and solder it to your truck.

Wow that harness is steep! Thank you for the link though.

Thanks for the clarification on all of that. It’s easy for me to get confused over this stuff. It will all make much more sense when I can actually get into the tear down. If you guys are willing to keep up the helpful info stream I can foresee me having a few questions when this project goes underway. Even after the purchase I think I will be restoring parts and repainting for a while so I will have plenty of time to digest the actual swap process.

I believe it was an option, but in general all four cylinders did not have locking differentials even if equipped with TRD.

It's worth it if you aren't good at electrical work. You can make the harness in your donor truck work, but it's complicated for the average person.

I dont have any pictures of the rear axle bc I haven’t picked the vehicle up yet. Today was my first time to actually get to see the truck in person. I’ll have to get back to you with info on that.

If you're going by the TRD label then Tyler is correct, the 4cyl TRD 4x4s did not get the rear locker like the 6cyl models did so it won't have one unless someone added it after the fact.
If you want a rear locker then you'll have to look for an entire rear axle TRD assembly with one or just add an aftermarket ARB or Harrop locker into it.

We got off track somehow. I have a 3.4L. I was just making a fun point that my truck had the TRD sticker but no TRD components. The parts truck I am buying has a TRD axle. My truck does not... yet.

I see but if the parts truck is a 4cyl with a TRD axle then it won't have a locker...only the 6cyl TRD axles did. But...Im still curious and would like to see a pic of it when you get a chance just to confirm

Okay, I took a closer look at the donor truck and ran the VIN. This isn't a manual hub truck, this is 4WD on-demand truck meaning it's ADD, and I believe it is push-button. Not sure. I can't see the shifter.

Sorry. That makes it a little harder. You'll have to figure out how to wire the VSV's (vacuum switching valves) and run the vacuum lines.

Anyway rear locker or not it still sounds like this is a good parts truck for some of the 4wd components you'll need.

Parts truck is a 3.4L auto. Gears btwn the 2 trucks match as well. The only apparent differences are the 4WD and e-locker. It definitely has an e-locker. I tested it during my test drive today.

This is sounding more accurate, but there is no push button anywhere in the truck to activate 4WD. I apologize for my lack of education in 4WD components. This is another motivator for taking on the project. I want to learn more about it.

So no manual hubs and no push button...that must mean it has the manual J shifter transfer case assembly

I guess so. The owner told me to just pull the J shifter down and the dash indicator came on. I felt the wheels grab and we were in 4.... I hope
