And after the OP seems to be long gone.

And x2 on that, Badger. What tires to buy, what transmission to get, and any other questions like that = whichever you like. ( just like going shopping with the Mrs., right?)

How to drive? However you want!

I got here way to late, this thread is so far derailed it belongs to a different railroad now.

I only got the Tacoma a couple of weeks ago, the last 3 winters I had an F-150 4x4. I assume it's pretty much the same drill, A couple of sandbags in the back and a light foot on the gas?

Don't apply any common sense to the situation. Not to worry though, there will be another of these threads starting up at any time, don't feel like you missed anything.:D

Humor aside, you nailed it, unless you want better tires than the stock dunflops or bfgs, which I would.

Per the tire rack mag I just got in the mail:

"Does your vehicle or light truck use wide low pro or floatation sized tires? If you're going to drive through lots of snow this year, you'll want your winter/snow tires and wheels in sizes that help put the laws of physics on your side. Larger or wider tires meet more resistance because they have to "plow" a wider path through snow. Narrower is better."

    just trying to :stirthepot:

out of the hundreds of snow tire models they offer only one has a snow tire that's wide.... 285/70/17 by GT "Altimax Artic"

If they were so good demand would mean supply.....but in this case there is nill for supply so must mean demand is low...

I can say for sure that you don't want to wear snowshoes unless the snow is deep.

I wish they made a 255/80r16 :( I wanted some 32s and an aspect ratio of 80 is perfect IMO. . . Stupid 265/75s aren't even a true 32" 255 is my favorite width, 80 my favorite aspect ratio, 16" my favorite wheel size and 32" my favorite height. WHY does this not exist!

All I know is, I'm hoping we actually get some snow to drive in! Last year sucked for snow around here. :pout:

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
4wd offers a ton more stability for a moving vehicle.
It does require a different driving technique.
It will tend to understeer more(Puuushh for the AssCar crowd)
Wide tires will negate most of the benefit of 4wd.
Yes, you can shift into 4h at 50mph.
Sharp steering angles are what cause problems in the drivetrain.

Some people can read and understand. Also have enough experience to know what works because they tried. Not like people who crawl mall curbs :D
