what advantage/s does one have over the other? I know the trd sport has LSD while the trd OR has a rear locker.

While I love my PreRunner, it's not even close to being as capable as any 4wd vehicle when it comes to off-road traction. I'm married with kids and I work for a living so off-road isn't my entire life. My wife drives the recovery vehicle for when I overestimate my 2wd capabilities

I didn't think the newer sports had LSD?

The newer ones ( 08 + IIRC ) all have ALSD , the older sports mechanical LSD

Right, not really a "limited slip differential" but a brake actuated fake ass LSD.

i read that toyota went the brake route for LSD because brakes are cheaper/easier to replace. Doesn't seem very dumb.----> "LSD (limited slip differential) action can be done inside the differential (with clutches) or at the tires (with brakes). Brakes can be easily replaced as they wear out, but re-building a differential is a bigger issue! Toyota wisely went the brake route for their system." - originally posted by David K

Didn't say it was "dumb", but I'm pretty sure the major off-road guys stick with the mechanical units for a reason

not sure. But cheap to maintain and fix is a good thing for us consumers:D And the system works. Its awesome feeling the truck claw its way out of being buried in snow. You can feel each wheel working independently from inside the truck.

My mechanical unit has 122k miles and still functioning. I'm not sure when they're supposed to wear out, but mine still works? :notsure:

The wife's has ATRAC which is ok as long as you're driving REALLY slow. Her over jealous ABS damn near killed us in the snow once though.
