Now you are talking about driver ability , not vehicle abilities .

Given the same driver , 4x4 will outperform 2WD in snow everytime .

    End of story .

    Inside joke son.

Cars and even trucks are a little bit out of control here. At least some drivers anyways.

Agreed. Unfortunately, there are quite a few people who drive recklessly simply because they feel invinsible in a 4x4. BUT. If you are a good driver and don't have that attitude than 4wd wins hands down.

Does this mean that every person driving a 4wd vehicle feels like they are invincible? No it does not. There is not much of a point to your post other than to warn the OP that if he gets 4wd, to not get too comfortable or cocky when driving in snowy conditions.

this isn't the original question... people keep bringing up stupid ass reasons for their lack of a 4wd.

    "I saw 4wd in ditch"
"2wd can do almost all the 4wd can"
    "4wd is only EXTREME offroarding"
    etc etc etc

The fact is that based solely on the truck a 4wd will trump a 2wd in traction related situations EVERYTIME!

    Pretty much stock
One advantage everyone is missing is that the 4x4 sends power to the wheels that are TURNING...ahh HA Lets see your prerunner do THAT!

Not to mention the ones with the most weight sitting on them, therefore giving you a traction advantage in slippery conditions.

Why you think FWD vehicles go so well in the snow? And don't say they won't...that impala <--- (with no traction control) will straight roll in the snow (as long as it isn't over the front bumper)

No there's nothing wrong with that, you keep saying that the OP should not get 4wd because he will end up in a ditch if he does. Good job twisting the meaning of my post there bud :D.

If that was the point you were trying to make , you might have been better served to say " OP , you should probably get a 4x4 , but be aware it doesn't make you invincible " , rather than " You probably will be fine with 2WD because you may be over confident in the 4x4 you should probably get " .

LOL!!! I agree completely dude!!!! In the OP's situation, I would highly recommend a 4x4 for safety in snow.

The only reason I don't have a 4x4 is $$$ (It may be a stupid reason to you, but it is a perfectly fine reason for me). If I lived in a place where it snowed more, I would probably buy a 4x4 for safety reasons.

Well no $hit! But the kid never mentioned ANYTHING about off-roading. For the ones that did brought up the debate about 4wd and 2wd. Talent never came up nor the main issue of experience. Thought on both would releave a little of the congestion here. Then again our race is on so the main antagonist are going to leave for a little bit.
On a ending note (again) 2wd is alright in the 2nt Gen Tacoma. It is further developed in later years and works just fine. Ir's not for being a snowplow but the TC works just fine on most usual snow covered roads North of the Dixy Line.

I agree... if you live in a place when 4x4 wouldn't be used then there is really no reason to have it... other than for fun. however, he lives in the Tahoe area where its snows 50% of the year. :D

Does that mean the OP shouldn't buy a 4wd vehicle because you never will then?
