Throw some votes my way! The 07 has good maintenance records; the 98 has had lots of attention too. Impossible to find a 4X auto Trans Tacoma, under 250k miles, for under $10k around here... My PreRunner wouldn't handle some steep gravel on our cabin run through Stanislaus Natl Forest fire roads, so that's my terrain

    Stock for now.. maybe
I like them both. Just keep in mind the 1st gens are smaller by far. It doesn't bother me though. I kind of like the 1st generation size better.

    Good luck

@DiscoYaker I like the smaller size too. Torn. Loved my 02 PreRunner & my dad has 1st Gens. Gotta check for rust on the 07, California coast its whole life... If the 98 was a few bucks cheaper I'd be on it.

That is quite a bit especially since the 07 is nine years newer and not that much more comparatively. The 07 looks real nice. When I got my 2015 last year it was definitely a change coming from a 1995 RWD. I still have the 95 because I'd rather keep it instead of selling for a few grand.

How far away are the two trucks from you? Maybe the seller will take a few pictures of the frame so you at least get an idea. If the say no its probably got some rot

    I’d go with the 07’
The 4.0 is definitely a step up in power from the 3.4.
It will have an Open Diff. So don’t expect it to be much better than your PreRunner until it’s in 4WD or Locked.

You didn’t say what year your PreRunner was?
If it were 09’+ it would probably bo better in 2WD then the 07.

The 07’ will go places the PreRunner couldn’t by far.
Good tires help A LOT in 2WD. Other wise, you’ll find yourself spinning one rear tire and going no where.

(Somebody might have tore some rust in a yard, now I just flip it in 4WD and avoid getting in trouble)
