I pay $460 a year for my home tax. $150 a year tax on my Tundra. My license renew is $32 annually. Our sales tax is 6% except on food. No sales tax on groceries.
    Stay there.

First off, I agree, California is a great state to visit, no doubt in my mind....and Chicago is a great, world-class city to visit too. I just liked living in other cities a whole lot better than Chicago. From what i’ve read, heard and learned since moving here, Chicago is very similar to California when it comes to taxes and government. Taxes are needed, I get that, but they definitely aren’t “shit everywhere”, only in places with excessive and/or corrupt government.......

Politics is a banned subject on TW, and for good reason I think.

However, consider for a moment how boring and unproductive the world would be if everyone was of the same opinion and agreed. It is precisely because we don’t all agree with each other, that many good things happen, and shit gets done. Often, you need the contrast in opinion to see the best way forward. I’m not American, but when I observe America, I’m glad there is a diversity of opinion there. It’s what it is, which is a good thing, because of that. It would be a horror if it was all bent one way or the other. California is a cool place and the folks there have brought a lot more to the world than they seem get credit for here, including the first Tacomas.

There are destitute and homeless people, many of them mentality ill, in all cities and all countries in the world. It’s been that way for countless centuries. What is your point? The only time I’ve ever stepped in human shit was in Duluth.

I’m from CA and currently visiting my family in KCMO. I laughed out loud when I got the bill for my dinner. Everything is so cheap here, about 30% less. They’re practically giving the gas away too, under $2.20. There are a lot of things about California that I won’t miss. Gerald Brown is one of them.

SF is a strange place, but I love it even though there are $8MM homes on streets that smell like piss.

Hah. CalTrans has been working on I-880 here in the Bay for years....it hasn’t changed anything except for making traffic worse. The highway still sucks.

California weather and geography are incredible, but we have the highest gas prices in the country, mostly because of the taxes. Probably at least a full dollar a gallon higher than your state, before this next tax. Yet our roads are a mess and we have a bullet train to nowhere.

I swear this forum whines more about California than California does about gas prices
