I just bought a JL Stealthbox for third gen double cab Tacoma.

I also just bought FOCAL inside Is 690 Toy components for the front doors.

I bought a Alpine MRV 500 or something like that because it was cheap and it’ll power the sub. But the guy at the store was convincing me on a 5 channel so I could power the front speakers too.

I don’t really care about loudness but I do care about clarity. Should I spend the extra money on a 5 channel amp?

    thank you!

You should absolutely get the 5 channel. Those speakers won’t preform anywhere near what they are capable of if you don’t supply them with the power they need.

Where do most people mount the amp? In the rear seat compartment or under the drivers seat?

Any suggestions on a good 5 channel?

    I drive a Miata.

Under either front seat or in the unused rear cubby, taking care not to interfere with the heating ducts. Ive used an alpine 5ch in a scion powering a 10" JL and replaced all the door speakers with Alpine; it sounded like a beast.

Because of space constraints in the tacoma, I'd do a (smaller) standalone to power the sub and install a kicker key under the dash.

Go 5 channel to amp the speakers, they will sound much better that way.
As for recommendations, I say go with the audiocontrol d-5.1300. It has a DSP that you program with your laptop so you can time align the speakers, adjust eq points, and adjust levels better.
    https://www.audiocontrol.com/car-audio/power-amplifiers/d-51300/

It will do 4 x 100 watts and then between 300-500 (depending on your ohm load) for the subwoofer.

You're going to like the set up.
I like the JBL box, fits great and perfect punch. (not ghettto)
Also a focal Fan Boy (though they do need some breakin in)
I put my amp (5 Ch) in open space behind drivers back seat cubby.

get good cables and be done with it

I’ve seen both on here. I have an AC so I went under the front seat but there is lots of threads on here about amp locations.

Do the seat motors create any interference with the amp when installed underneath drivers seat?

that Audio Control LC 5 channel mentioned above is one of the better 5 channels you can get. you should be able to fit it under the drivers seat no problem at all

When I started to put my gear together, I had this question. I thought about what I wanted, but also where I might go. 1 sub, 2 subs, front speakers, bridging… literally everything. I settled on 2 amps for flexibly. If I want more power for one set, swap that amp, not a more expensive amp and pay more for what I already have on top of what I’m trying to improve.
