Holy smokes you've got a project to tackle there! What a mess. At least that problem that has been in the back of your mind for some time, about the wires, will now be corrected.

And your engine will be ecstatic with that new radiator! Looks really good.

    When is your smog testing?

Right?! I was a little embarrassed posting it.

This wiring was bad. Lucky it has nothing to do with the factory toyota wires. In that mess was a Karr alarm. That thing is a piece of junk. Anyone with half a brain can trace it out and steal a vehicle. There was 5 aux switches. 3 off road light 1 exhaust cutout switch( I added) and 1 efan override switch. When I add aux switches back to the truck, I'll do some research on a clean way to set it up. My brother is a journeyman so I go to him for electrical advice. All the piggyback and wideband stuff is wired into the toyota ecu.

Smog is in November, I kinda wanna rip off the whole turbo setup anyways and see if anything is worn on the intercooler side. The header looks great and still no cracks in it. Basically I want to inspect what a year's worth a wear and tear did. That exhaust cutout might have just crapped itself. It rattles too much and really can't handle off road abuse. I'll just maybe rip off the cat and muffler all together. It is pretty quiet dumping the exhaust after the turbo. The motor doesn't have that aggressive of cams. I'm surprised that ebay turbo is still really tight. I checked shaft play. Going to the beach tomorrow. Too hot to work on the truck this weekend.

So got the electrical squared away and put in the new radiator fan, but the truck still runs like crap and won't start now after just driving around the neighborhood

Hoping it isn't the head gasket. Going to check compression and do a leak down test tomorrow. Afr were happy and had enough vacuum at idle to eliminate air leak. Something made it pissed from that night run

Lol yeah I have a full tank. I like a day to think it over if I can't get the truck to run. So right now the truck will crank over fire up and die instantly. You can smell gas out the tail pipe. It is pretty much doing that thing last year where I didn't wire up my spark plug wires to my piggyback correctly. Since they are wired up correctly it could be the spark plug wires got toast or my plugs. I'll check spark and compression today. I'm leaning towards an issue with spark.

compression test rounding to the nearest 5 psi.

    cylinder 1 160psi
    cylinder 2 120psi
    cylinder 3 160psi
    cylinder 4 170psi

leak down cold engine no oil added to the cylinder

    cyl 1 13 % leak
cyl 2 25% leak through exhaust
    cyl 3 13% leak
    cyl 4 10% leak

Looks like the head is coming off. I'd still run it if NA, but not good enough. We'll see if it is gasket or a valve not seating right.
Took the turbo off already. The MAF sensor housing has a leak. It is a cheap universal one.
Might run this or convert the MAP

I hope it is just the exhaust valves on #2. If it is leaming out the exhaust, it narrows it down pretty good.

Got most of the turbo stuff out today. Just have turbo, header and oil lines and the truck will pretty much be stock. Wasn't really that ambitious on it. I really hope it is just a head gasket instead of having to get the valves reset. I might change out the aluminum intercooler tubes to stainless. The aluminum is wearing away in certain spots. Off road makes boosting stuff about 10 times more complicated.

Since I'm pulling the head I want to get a better head gasket and ARP studs in there. I need to find a local shop near me that can check out my head and let me know if my valves are good. There a a bunch of racing shops in my area. 17 year old motor finally showed me some weakness. At least my bottom end is still tight. I had a glove latex over the valve cover during leak down and it never inflated. Also with the head out of the way it would be the perfect time to switch to solid motor mounts. Man I need a different hobby, lol.

Pulled the turbo off and got all the stock parts on. It started and ran for a few minutes. After a few minutes the engine started shaking and died. I got a p1310 code and kept getting the code after clearing it. It cranks fires and dies. I might have a loose ground somewhere. I don't think it is the cyl low compression is doing this issue but something spark related. It's probably not a coil pack since it runs. Fun electrical gremlins we have here. Want to solve this issue before I pull the head.

Still no updates. It was too hot last weekend to work on the truck. September in so cal is a bad time to work on trucks. I have new spark plugs and plug wires going in soon. Electrical trouble shooting of the factory ecu is not my strong point so takes me a while to find it. I really hate that black box. I found the electrical pages from Toyota to test for p13xx codes. I need to sucker in a friend to help out for a bit.

Well you already fixed one mess of wires. Maybe there is something else that needs some tending to. None of your exhaust messed up any wires, correct?

Can you swap #3 coil pack into with another, to see if it the code moves?

Best of luck getting the truck back together. If I was stateside I would be down to lend a hand and learn some of your engine troubleshooting skills.

There is a good possibility I melted wires due to my exhaust. All those wires go across the head. I'm also going to tackle that after I move coil packs around. The plan is to do spark plugs, wires, test coil packs, and check wires. I'd like to move the wires to the intake side but it is a lot of wires. Heat wrap or sheet metal heat shields are in my future

Put some new plugs and plug wire in and moved the coils around. The truck still threw the same code. I went to the next step of pulling apart the wires that go to the ign. If you see the picture at my fingers you will see some exposed wires. Looks like that is my issue and it controls the 2 and 3 ign. Look like the turbo threw off a little too much heat. I'm going to get some wire and move it to the other side of the head and wrap up my turbo.
