Yeah. Those wires were toast. Glad you found that!

Have you yet had the chance to drive it with them fixed?

Thanks guys. I haven't fixed it yet. Might throw tape over the exposed wires tonight and drive the truck around the block before I start cutting and changing out the wires. Depends on how late I get home from work.

Did you check all your fuses?

Never posted my issue in here yet. My dash lights are out. I had my brother help me last weekend, but I think his meter died. I'll check it tomorrow. manuals say the dash light is based off the tail lights. I could of sworn I checked that fuse. I'll check it again and every other fuse. Some box the haynes manual says is a light control switch.

Weird thing everything works but the lights. This truck is stripped down pretty basic being a base model. I jumped the dimmer too just in case that died. Bulbs are good because they have resistance.

I'm so confused... so your dash lights are out and your truck still isn't idling without dying? IDK about the dash lights, but a short in the right wire will fry the ECU. A fried ECU won't let the truck idle without dying. Did you check the integrity of the wire harness and ground coming right out of the ECU behind the glove box? I've blown fuses by wheelin in the mountains because wires mysteriously touch crap they aren't supposed to behind the glove box...

Sorry about that. I'm a little behind in the build page. I fixed that issue and the truck runs great. I cut and soldered new wires and routed to the other side of the block. The turbo shorted out the wire. Got lucky it was just the wires. No CEL's and truck is 100% stock at the moment turbo wise. Almost ready for emission testing.

My new demon is the dash light not turning on which I thought you saw my post from earlier today and jumped on this thread.

How long until the next emissions test after this one?

2 years. I kinda like it cuz I have to pull everything off and check it over. I'm hoping it will pass with that low compression on cyl 2. If it goes well, I'm pulling the head. Doing solid motor mounts and putting in my Toyota pick up radiator. Fixed the dash. Just a dead fuse.

My inspection is due soon as well. I have to swap to stock injectors, stock ecu, and swap the cat in. Not near as intensive as yours but only lasts for one year. Unforturnately. :(

IDK that sounds more rough than me. I do rip everything out though so that the smog guy doesn't flag me. So everything comes out so it looks stock and acts stock. I still have the aftermarket injectors in though. The factory ecu can trim them out. It does suck that my truck is the last year they probe the exhaust. If I had a 2000 and newer model all I need to do it have all my sensors check in as working and look stock under the hood. I just hope they don't put it on the dyno anymore. I'm hoping to get to the smog place in the next week or so. She is such a dog to drive. I do get great mileage again though. 24mpg compared to 20.

Glad you got the issue figured out. Hopefully when you pull the head everything is good with its integrity. When mine was pulled to do the HG I had four cracks in between valves and a few of them went to the water jacket. So now I have a new head, but she runs better than ever and with more torque than it ever had. I always like watching your build, we have different trucks but similar ideas it seems.

Any idea what the cause of the cracks in the head were from?

I'm hoping mine is just a pissed off valve. It's coming off in the next few weeks once I finish up my solid motor mounts and for a radiator. Did you get coolant past your head gasket?

Jig is made up for solid motor mounts. Should be fun. Cutting out cardboard and drawing it up on solidworks to get it laser cut soon.

Also chopped off the mounts that came with the radiator and had a local guy weld on my supports. I plan to do some more cutting to the mounts once I figure out mounting position. I'll be working on this a bit more.

Looks awesome. Glad to know someone else on here knows SolidWorks, most of the guys I talk with want AutoCAD files. Are you making completely solid mounts or are you gonna have a standard round bushing in there somewhere. Also I am not sure whether or not my head gasket leaked coolant or if it was just the head cracks. When the leak down was done it revealed a head gasket crack between cyls 2 and 3 and that pressure was escaping directly to the radiator. Also I have ass loads of blowby, even after the head job, but compression is good so I'm not complaining.

I use solidworks at work when I'm working designs. Makes it easy for anything fabrication or just looking for ideas. This mount though is half solidworks and part cardboard design. Almost done with the drawing to get cut. I'm using a 2" poly bushing like you'd use for your leaf spring. I'm using the bushings to get some vibration dampening from the angry 4cyl. I'll get some pictures of my cardboard to solidworks design on here.

Sounds good, once you get the design up and going would you be willing to make more? I'd be interested in a set.

Of course. Once I get them made up I'm going to beat on the truck some just to see if they are doing great. So probably earliest would be spring time I'd feel comfortable making them. A guy local to me is going to try his mounts in my jig when he gets back from deployment. He has a 3rz 4x4 like you. Be nice if this fixture covers the whole rz tacoma platform

The 3RZ and 2RZ are the same block so I think the only difference would be between 5lug frames and 6lug frames. But spring time would be perfect because I'm broke anyway. :p
