I have a 2008 Tacoma base sr5 2wd. From my research I guess all the 2wd models only came with a 5 lug 15 inch wheel instead of the 6 lug 16 or 17 inch wheel for the 4wd models. I know about the adapters you can get for the 5 to 6 lug but is there an actual different hub you can get to replace from a 5 to 6. I found the 6 online but it says for a 4wd. Is it really that different that it won’t match up? Any other ideas.

Shy of a conversion spacer there’s no way to swap unless you have fabrication skills. The front suspension is different with the spindle and upper arms with how they mount.

the rear axle would be a serious challenge as well

there’s a reason the xrunner remained a5 lug

Not to mention trying to find 6 lug brake rotors that would fit in the calipers correctly..

No, everything is different on the suspension, frame, brakes, and axles between the 5 and 6 lug trucks.

There are 6 lug 2wd trucks (Toyota calls them a PreRunner) but they share the same parts as 4wd trucks so nothing interchanges with 5 lug trucks.

If you have your heart set on having a six lug, there are a lot of pre runners for sale on marketplace and craigslist. You might have a gander at what's on the market.
