Just curious to all the fellas driving their 5 speed 5 lugs.. how responsive is the motor and transmission? I see and or hear nothing but good things from the guys that drive the 6 lug 2.7L 4x4 access cab models, they talk about how (not fast) they are, but how peppy they are compared to the 4 speed Auto, just wondering if the same is to be said for the 5 lugs with the 5 speed??

My bog-stock 5sp 5-lugger AC was what i'd describe as 'peppy' .. it came down to how fast you stirred the stick, really.

Throw a set of 225/75R16 rims/wheels on it, and it's now 'lazy' in the first three gears.

Comes down to your rim/tire size and your gearing/re-gearing. If i go up any larger on the tires, i'll be re-gearing.

So in stock it's not as bad as a 4 speed auto then?

Wouldn't even consider the auto - I prefer manual, keeps me in tune with driving and paying attention.

Pretty much all the comments that i've read, general consensus is that it's a comparative slug with an auto 2.7 litre.

Manual for fuel efficiency when taking 'er easy, Manual for keeping it in the rev range for optimal acceleration.

    Nowhere NEAR.

The 5 speed 2.7 is peppy, VERY responsive, and will occasionally chirp on dry pavement if you're in a big-assed hurry. Its a matter of knowing how to manage the RPMs, shift properly, and don't be afraid to wind her up a bit.

Bigger meats make it slower....I wouldn't call mine 'lazy' with the 225/75s on it now, but there's a def noticeable lag it didn't have before.

    EDITED to add

A lot has to do with weight as well. I have a reg cab. Access cabs slow down more...DCs are def 'lazy' even with the manual.

Bone stock tires and 5 speed with 4.10 is how they should be delivered. Bigger tires need bigger gears to have any real response. At 31/10.50 and 4.88 it's not fast, but it is responsive and actually moves. Stock gearing is a joke.

About a year ago I went up one size to 225/70-15 and did not notice any lag until summer hit and lots of A/C use. If the A/C is on, it likes about 500 more RPM's on the first two shifts. In a few years when they wear it will back close to original circumference.
