Okay this is my last dumb question, I searched but couldn't find an answer. I've heard praises and great things about the auto trans on the tacomas but I have one particular question, how does it do with 33" tires? Does it hunt gears going up hills on the highways with beefier tires or does it handle them quite well?

Thanks for all your help guys and gals, hopefully I'll be in a taco in a week or two

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
it's definately gonna down shift more than it does with 31's on hills, i havent driven much on the interstate but when i do, i can run 70 at like 1900 rpms (mph by gps not speedo) so its pretty nice. your take off is prolly gonna suffer some but i never really get on mine off the line anyway. I like the gearing with 33's personally and i still manage 21 or a little better mpg with light footed driving.

It's fine. I run 10 ply bfg's and have hauled my motorcycle all over the country doing military moves. I also have heavy bumpers and skids and have never had a problem with power. That being said, you need to realize these aren't super powerful and just be content with how she runs.

If that's the case it may just come down to how the $$ falls in my choice between manual and auto

No issues here. Towed a 7000# car hauler with no issues either (other than sucking gas).
