Didn't read the thread, but I've always put 5% on all my vehicles. All a matter of personal preference. I like the look from the outside and I like that no one on the outside knows what I'm looking at. Yes its yard to see at night, but if I really need to see I just roll the windows down.

    All in due time...
Thanks to everyone for the responses. It's been a few weeks now and either the tint has lightened up or my eyes have adjusted to the darkness. Either way, I'll stick with the 5% for now, but will probably go lighter on my next truck.

I have 35% but combined with the slight tint from factory glass its technically illegal here in CT. I wanted to match the front to the rear. Also my job title i need as much privacy as i can get, LEO wont give me a hard time once they run my plate;)

Not to get off topic, but I'm also running the reverse US flag.

LOL! then why did you get it? i have used double 5% on my last 10 or so cars and trucks.

if your really stressed about it, put 5% on back doors, 20% on front doors and back window, if your REALLY stressed do about 17% all around

for backing up i always just put driver window down and watch the rear wheel, like make a mental line where you want to go and keep the wheel on that line

(of course if you already know there is not any obstructions, if your in a new terratory scout it and roll down all windows and open back glass and backup)

normal driving, to be honest i almost always at least leave a crack in my driver window so i can at least see my sideview mirror, but i smoke and it usually down anyways.

a previous poster already mentioned this, and it is really good idea, install quality infrared ccd nite vision cameras, i even got hold of some military humvee anti-aircraft infrared spotlights :) with double 5% and no lights i can still drive on interstate with zero lights :)

but seriously, if you feel iffy about the dark tint man, i'd just run without it. if you like the look but sketchy about not being able to see out the side windows, you can use an old trick we used to use when the cops actually cared. remember, people can only see in when there is light inside, meaning, try double or even triple 5% on back doors, back glass and at least an 8 inch strip at the top of the windshield, and then 20%-30% on front windows.

basically what you are doing is similar to like when you are in a dark room looking into a bright room, in this setup you can see everything going on in the bright room, but if you are in a bright room looking into a dark room you cant see anything. by making the inside have very limited places where light can come in, even in the daytime the inside is MUCH darker than the outside, so if you block most of the light coming in from all the other windows and leave the 2 front windows at like 20%-30%, even though they would be damn near see through at 20%-30% they still look dark from the outside since there is no light source inside the truck.

i hope that makes some sense, sorry if i lost you :) but basic idea, if you worried about seeing out of side windows, make the others a black hole, make front windows light, it will still look like dark tint from the outside :)

(i'm gonna head this off at the pass... dont bother msg'n me saying 20%-30% is not see through, you can still see the outline of a person if you do all windows at 20%-30%, so that makes it see through)

    cheers,
    disco

sorry for double post but this is important....

i was guinney pig so ta speak for a surgery that is now semi common, many years ago, i was basically loosing my eye site at a rapid rate, got to the point where to see the big 'E' on the eye chart, i had to be about 6 inches from it. the doctor who was doing the research got FDA approval and after spending $14,000 each, 40 of us got to be guinney pigs, heh!

2 days later i had 20/20 vision, now i have 20/25 over ten years later.

point is ALMOST ALL STATES have a provision where you can request the forms from the state police and have an eye doctor or eye surgeon produce an afidavit that darkened windows does in fact aid in your being able to drive safer. "medical exemption"

personally i think it is OUTRAGEOUS THAT COPS CAN HAVE BLACK WINDOWS AND WE CAN'T! so make friends with a doctor or if you already have eye problems and want black windows it is your duty to manipulate the system LOL!

here is the form for Louisiana (attached)

    cheers,
    disco

its called 'e-glass' or 'smart glass' its actually electronic film, when you run different current though it has different levels of tint. yes it is VERY expensive! like a 4" x 4" swatch will run you a good $40-$50 without edges, wiring, power supply's.

my latest "I-10 stealth" project placing a sheet of the film ontop of my license plate cover then connecting film to the live database through my 9500ix blutooth live connection so that when i get close to the gps coordinates of a redlight camera, speed camera, or speed van, the film is automatically sent current, plate goes black, no worries :)

escort is not very sharing with proprietary code so its not going very smoothly to say the least! i even told them i would agree to signing papers saying if i decided to share the project it could only be with escort.

    cheers,
    disco

Curious -- have you done a GoRuck challenge? Is there a GoRuck in that truck? Which is your favorite? Orange County CA, FL or other?

I have 30% on the front - it matches the rear (access cab) the tint guy said - it is illegal in WA and the guy told me and also said it's on me which was honest.

It is a good level of tint for me and provides a level of security from prying eyes - I had my older truck burglarized and lost a camera and GPS. I now have the tint and an alarm.

You know they already make license plate covers that will black out with the flip of a switch right?

making it do auotmatically would be pretty sweet
