Is there a benefit to having an even 50/50 weight distribution on the axles for off-roading?

    On the axles or wheelbase?

On the axles normally one side is off due to fuel tank.

For wheelbase 50/50 absolutely, keeps COG down and helps in up and downhill climbs. better for high end speed.
