Thanks guys. He was sick but wouldn’t go to the hospital until his O2 level was so low that he became combative and unresponsive. Ended up on the vent and finally was able to be removed from it but died after. He’s from the mountains of NEPA and is going to eternal rest in true Appalachian form - a camoflauge casket. I think he actually would have approved. Great guy and built all sorts of vehicles. He had a late 70s Dodge 2500 that he put in a B I G Detroit Diesel in it. Big hunter and would take annual trips to Canada for the caribou run.

sweet!!! We used to have one of those, but it got to be a hassle to move as you know, so we gave it to the neighbors whose kids were starting to learn. I have an old Roland synth I use now...less room, and lighter

man that desk is getting a workout!!!

yep, and that is why I am getting them...a nod to the old school. My uncle had them on his old Jeep, and I have great memories of us tumbling down hills in Southern Ohio in that thing on "boys weekend" campouts with him, dad and my cousins

jeebus...forget the anti-seize, you need the KY

ugh.... glad she's coming home and not destined to be a coral reef

I can understand they're upset that all of their hard work got messed up but you still gotta be thankful that no one was hurt. Planes can be rebuilt and the dents and dings hammered out, can't say the same for people

'bout to become part of my daily exercises I reckon

sorry to hear, pass on my condolences to the wife and fam.

So after my COVID shot side effects last week I put in a request for PTO for the two days I took off to recover.
Got a notice that it was approved yesterday.
Still nothing on my vacation request that I turned in two weeks ago.
I'm almost 100% sure that my vacation hasn't been approved because my supervisor never saw the request before yesterday.
Why? Because he's not great with technology and doesn't check on the PTO requests on the computer frequently enough. Pretty sure the only reason my PTO for my sick days was approved so quickly was that the lady that does payroll saw the pending request and needed it to go through to meet the deadline for payroll this week.
So I call my supervisor and ask if he had noticed that I had put in for a vacation. And then tell him that I'm no longer ASKING to take a vacation, I'm TELLING him that I am. I've been patient, waited two weeks, enough is enough. I need to finalize my plans and I can't wait any longer. Then he starts to try to negotiate - am I going to be in town during this vacation? IE am I willing to be on call and work on my vacation when they need me because they have no backup plan and if I go there is no one to do my work and the entire operation will come to a grinding halt. NO, I'm not available. I'm going camping and won't have cell, internet or electricity. Do I need to be gone the whole 3 weeks? Yes.

    SO freaking pissed off.

You can take vacation as long as your working while doing it.

    Pretty much.

He started talking about how he and the HR lady were talking and thought of maybe extending the expiration date on my PTO so I didn't have to take it all at once.

ALMOST of thinking of agreeing to that with a couple of non-negotiable conditions
    - its got to be in writing that my PTO is not expiring. I was told last year that my unused PTO would roll over and then it mysteriously disapppeared
    - the PTO that I lost last year needs to be reinstated
    - future PTO requests cannot be denied for any reason

The only reason I'm thinking that would be a better option is just so that I have more time to plan a real trip and take maybe the whole month of September off. Plus a week now and a week at the end of June.
As of 6/7 I'll have new PTO for the year, another 200 hours I think? So my PTO balance would be 380 hours

    I have 1/3 of that.
After 47 years I still have to beg for the time off.
