Yesterday at work my foreman asked me if I wanted to to sit in on interviews for a apprentice. I would not be involved in picking a person. I would just be giving my opinion. 20 people applied for the position and the committee picked 5 people to interview.
The things is,,the committee in the past has picked people based on how well they could sell themselves. One person was picked because he did an outstanding job of selling himself. He had lots of practice, going in front of prison parole boards 3 times. He got the job, only to fired 2 years later for stealing.
I feel that if I'm giving my opinion I'll get blamed if they pick someone who doesn't work out. That is based on past picks that didn't work out.

I just stumbled across this, and since I'm >25x2, I will join in. This year has been the most aches and pains that I've felt to date.. as I increase the miles on the bicycle and pick harder trails to hike on, somewhere in the back of my mind I keep hearing that line from ' Top Gun' where Maverick is getting his arse chewed out with the boss yelling " Your ego is writing checks that your body can't cash!".

Just to add to the beard topic- for some reason, the males in my family never got that gene turned on. Once upon a time I could grow a cheesy mustache and 9 months to grow a ragged looking goatee that I got caught in my parka while zipping up.. The patch of fur that got ripped out of my face was al it took for me to never try to have more than a few days of unshaveness going on...
