I had an older JD that gave me troubles starting, happened to mention it to an acquaintance who turned out to be familiar with JD. He might have mentioned a TSB, been several years.

Solution was to put a Bosch style relay on the trigger wire to the solenoid so the key switch only closes the new relay. Run a new wire from the battery positive, through the new relay and on to the solenoid trigger terminal.

As he explained it there wouldn't be enough voltage left to actuate the solenoid reliably after going through all the safety switches, there is enough however to actuate the added relay which provides the solenoid trigger with full voltage via the new wire.

All the safety circuits function normally as the only change is what the key switch actuates, not where it gets its power from. $10 and 20 minutes and I never had a problem again.

    I’ll keep this in mind.
My craftsman did the same and I ended up putting a Ford starter relay in it.
Will need to check the exciter wire during key over. Knowing my luck I’ll get there and the dam thing will start lol

    Good morning everyone :hattip:

Lots to be proud of there.

I worked for a farmer when I was in high school that had a big Crescent wrench with a ball peen hammer head welded on the end of the handle. Actually he had several, kept one in each tractor. I wish I had a picture to share.

    Good Morning :hattip:

Looks to be a nice day.

I'd say come and get some of our workers. Wait, you can't,,,, they didn't come in today.
It's amazing how some of these new people use up all there vacation time and still get fired for calling in too much. This happens before they get through the 90 day probation period.

Enjoy your down time. Get another cup of coffee and grab a donut or two.

:hattip:Good morning everybody. First day of retirement and I got to go to work again. Still need to turn in my cruiser and some equipment. Only be a couple of hours though.

Another hot and humid day in store for us again today. Fortunately, not as high of a heat index as it has been, only 106-110 today o_O At least they say rain starting this afternoon and continues for the next couple of days with cooler temps.

Went for a hike yesterday and got caught in a downpour. Was about 1.5 miles from camp. With my camera. Forest Service Law Enforcement Ranger guy saw me and recognized me, he was through camp the day before and we talked. He offered me a ride back to camp. But he made me ride in the back

That was nice of him. The ride in the back is a rule I think. @Cwopinger would know.

    Yeah it is.
Still grateful for the ride. They patrol the area pretty heavily anyways but with stage 2 fire restrictions in place they've doubled their patrols. Had the FS guy who cleans the toilets, the OHV FS Ranger, a fire crew, the FS Law Enforcement ranger and the local sheriff through each day at a minimum.
