It's great to hear they are taking care of vets like you with good medical service. That's the way it should be.

that happened to me the 1st summer i had my RTT. big storm came through and there was so much lightning happening one after another it was almost daylight at midnight. and the thunder claps just sort of blended into one another too. there was so much static in the air I kept zapping myself and my hair was standing on end. i was lying up there wondering in anyone had ever died in an RTT from a lightning strike
..and happened again when i was in eastern MT, 1st night of my 10 day roadtrip and I'm thinking my tent is going to be ripped to shreds. lightning, hail, rain, winds. we were under a severe storm warning and i think very close to a tornado watch. at one point i got up, grabbed all of my stuff and went back down to sit inside Runner to wait out the storm. i thought the tent was going to be trashed and figured if it was going to happen i didn't want to be inside it when it went.

it was about that time i started really thinking about getting a camper.

Backpacking in New Mexico during monsoon season. We watched a Tstorm come across the valley towards us. We were on a Mesa out in the open. 12 scouts in the lightning position and strikes all around us. You could smell the ozone in the air.

So there I was, out in the woods by myself overnight for my Boy Scout Order of the Arrow Ordeal...in a sleeping bag, in the middle of the woods at the scout camp, in the middle of the night, and under a nice big oak tree...flash-bang lightning woke me up about 2 AM...Rained like hell for about an hour with strobe lightning the whole time...I was about 15 years old at the time...

man, that is something the whole world needs a lot more of:

stand still. shut up. Appreciate/respect something bigger than you

my dad - a Marine Corps Drill Sergeant - instilled that in me, and it is the single most important thing he ever did for me

That is very cool. I didn't get to go as a kid. I organized 2 as a scout master, still had the best times. We did 100 miles from the north to the south the first time, then we did just a 60 miler in the south.

I think we all had a good "up bringing" It still exist in spots throughout the Country, like here in mid Missouri. It's one of the reasons I left the east coast. Has nothing to do with politics. Mostly the parents are losing the battle.
    Thanks Sir.

    new 1st post pic? @CVYota

i think i would have made a better boy scout than a girl scout. i know i've mentioned before my girl scout days lasted all of 2 weeks or so before i was bored and quit. all singing songs and making friendship bracelets and dumb shit. i wanted to camp and hike and make a fire rubbing two sticks together and learn first aid...stoopid girl scouts here didn't do that
