I’ve been out of the program for 10-12 years now but I think it’s still 5%, maybe a little higher, that make Eagle. The same distraction still apply to not getting it. As far as citizenship and government, in my area most of the adult leadership is current or retired military, LE/FD so I can’t see it going away too much.

I've been out of scouting for 50 years and my troop is still around and believe it or not still has the same Scoutmaster. He was young when I was in the troop but still has to be probably 75.

He's been Scoutmaster for probably 55 years. Never married, met Presidents, guided 100's of kids to their Eagle. Pretty amazing man.

that is awesome. What a great - and rare - touch to history he is bringing to the kids! I hope they appreciate what he represents and brings to the table

Yeah Andy. I don't have many of myself, but this one from 6 years ago would be more accurate than the one on there now from 50+ years ago

I understood it well. These kids working in the field camping, hiking, swimming and the like were taught leadership, friendship and skills every young man should have to grow and become a man. I would think that every boy that spent any real time in the scouts became a good man. Some were great and some...well.....you know. But at least they had a chance to grow.

On my second overseas tour to Italy, I somehow got singled out for the Cub Scout Pack and was Cubmaster until I decommissioned the ship two years later. Then on another tour, this time got singled out to take over the Boy Scout Troop in Stuttgart Germany. That was a wonderful experience due to location....location.....location. Was also offered a slot for Woodbadge Training and jumped on it as spots back in the States were hard to get. I was really blessed to have that chance and it helped greatly. Finally tossed in the hat in 2000. With the exception of a few years off and on I had a registration card since 1967. Loved every minute of it.
