Morning all, been under the weather for a couple of weeks, it cleared up for the 3 days around Christmas but now I feel like do-do again. Of course not bad enough to stay home but at least it is slow today.

Weather has been cold (for us) hasn't gotten much above the 60s. Looks like the 2 coasts swapped weather this year.

Shhhhhhhh... let them keep the cooler weather out there this year. We've had more than our share of it in our lifetimes. ;)

Hope you feel better and shake it once and for all! Why do I feel like I'm stuck in the middle here?? :anonymous:

I live back in the woods a bit, or rather down in the woods. I like to watch birds so have bird feeders all around the deck. With a front coming through the wildlife including birds are a lot more active. About once a month I get lucky to catch a glimpse of a pileated woodpecker around. Large and rather prehistoric looking they are fairly shy of humans. Today from the sliding glass door I was able to catch one on the suet feeder and got a shot at him. Slid the door open just enough, trying to keep the dogs in and quiet wasn't easy with him 20 feet away.

A red bellied woodpecker came along as soon as the pileated left the suet feeder
    [IMG]

The Pileated and hairy sharing a tree down in the ravine.

Female Downy on the deck. There is a family of 3 Downy woodpeckers that have spent the summer around the deck and they will get as close as arms lengths away. Fun watching them grow up this year.

First time ever have seen all 4 woodpecker species here together like this. I still like Jim's office view better though :D

I've been lurking in this thread for a few weeks but those woodpecker shots are forcing my hand. They're really nice! We have a pileated woodpecker living in the woods around us. Not only do they look prehistoric, they sound it. Great job catching those images.

Oh and I qualify to be here, at least age-wise. To be honest I qualify for the 60+ thread too.

I'm getting ready to grill some bacon wrapped Prime sirloin steaks. In the dark and snow, uphill both ways ;) (sorry love that Bill Cosby joke). And now I have a strong hankering for chicken wings, blue cheese and celery instead. And some sweet tea....

Great pics! My wife loved them. We have several species here and she has pileated that's been hanging around. She's been working on getting him to the yard.

That was totally the wrong quote there.

Welcome and same here. 51 and fixing up my first taco. Same other plans too, but God had other plans and we have a little four year old. Big kids are gone.
