so I've been binge-watching Twin Peaks. Finished the original 90's series and now I'm into "The Return" from 2017. Getting a little weirded out...some of the scenes in the show are oddly similar to dreams that I've had ever since I was a kid. Well before the show was even a thing and this is the first time I'm watching it so not possible that it influenced my dreams as a kid.
Since I was about 6 I've had the same dream on occasion. Only have it when I'm sick with a high fever. Used to freak me out pretty bad and I'd wake up soon after it started. Over the years I've built up a tolerance of sorts to the dream so I stay asleep longer before waking up and can allow the story in the dream to progress.
It always starts with me laying on a floor in a pitch-black room. In the dream I wake up and sit up, sort of confused. As I start to sit up a spotlight comes on from above. But there's no ceiling, just black. And the light only illuminates the space that I occupy so I can't see beyond it. The floor I'm on is a black and white chessboard pattern. I start to crawl around, trying to find a way out of the room. Eventually, I stand and start to try to walk around with my arms stretched out in front of me. And I start to shout things like "is anyone there?" "how do I leave" "can someone help me?" All the while the spotlight follows me but again I can't see beyond the space I occupy so I don't see any ceiling or walls. A sense of panic comes over me as I try to stumble around in the dark trying to find a way out.
And that's as far as I got for years. The panic I felt in the dream of being trapped in that room would always wake me up. But I got used to it and somehow would recognize that I was in that dream again so it became a challenge for me to not wake up and to see what the next chapter was going to be.
Eventually, I built up the nerve to run through the room. But then things started to fall out of the sky/ceiling. Usually silverware. I don't have any idea why but silverware raining down on me. So I'd be running across this checkerboard floor with the spotlight following me and dodging giant forks and spoons and knives. And that was as far as I got for a while.
Next phase was that I would be running, dodging the silverware, and then the floor would start to shift - sort of like water ripples and waves. I would trip and fall as the floor raised and lowered and I'd be back to crawling around.
And that's as far as I can get. In 35ish years and several dozen occurrences of this dream, I have never found a way out of the room. The panicked feeling always wakes me up.

SO.... back to Twin Peaks. Agent Cooper is in "the waiting room" and there's a couple of scenes where the curtains/walls disappear and its just the zig zag tile floor and a black expanse. Then the room starts to shake and the floor starts to undulate.... way too similar to my dream sequence. And now I'm just sitting here thinking WTF.

I'm OK if it is cooked into it. It's the creamy and cheesy things I can't digest.
Like cream cheese frosting or creamer in coffee

I have a similar fever dream, checkerboard floor grows to different size squares. But mine was from when I was young and had the measles. We were in Wisconsin with my grandparents and the bathroom floor had the checkerboard pattern and I was woozy. Carried over to my dreams.

The spotlight and silverware, that's just weird

    sour cream and butter?
can't have you staining the tighty whiteys!

    I've always had weird dreams.
people in my dreams never have faces even if i know them and talk to them in my dream and call them by their names.
and its not lucid dreaming where you can control what you're doing but sometimes my dreams take place where i am in real life just with really weird shit going on.
one time out camping i was dreaming that a bear was trying to get into my tent. in my dream i was in the camp that i was in real life. in the dream the bear was walking around my tent and sniffing then pressed its face into the wall of the tent and i could feel its breath on my face. i woke up completely panicked and was ready to grab my knife and bear spray when i realized that i had made one too many clockwise turns in my sleeping bag and had rolled into the wall of the tent and my face was pressed up against the canvas. still took a while to calm myself down and get back to sleep.
another time camping i was set up near a rocky mountain with a steep cliff. at one point during the day a rock broke off the cliff and tumbled down. it was the strangest sound i've ever heard and will never forget it. i could hear the rock break free with a loud crack sort of like a distant gunshot, then a whoosh as it fell, and then another crack as it landed and splintered onto the rocks below. really eery, but cool. fast forward to sometime in the wee hours and i'm dreaming that i'm camping in that exact camping spot. and in my dream i'm laying in my tent. and i hear that noise of the rock breaking off the cliff. but this time the rock starts rolling towards me. now, how i know its coming at me i have no idea because i'm in my tent. but i can see outside from inside the tent. and i see this big boulder rolling over the meadow towards me. and i'm suddenly stuck in my sleeping bag, cant get it unzippered. and i look up and the boulder is coming right at me. at the last second i roll over and.....I wake up because i rolled over in real life too and rolled off my sleeping pad. landing on the hard ground woke me
when those kind of dreams hit me i usually have to stop and concentrate on what was real and what was a dream. since the setting is where i'm at in both real life and the dream is the same it takes a bit to sort out if the things that happened were real of part of my imagination.
