guess me and the bride are going to buy bikes and open up a new adventure in our lives and get in better shape too. I don't want to really spend the money but I guess it is actually an investment. An investment into our health and possibly avoid hospital, doctor bills etc..At least that is the way I am rationalizing it. They just opened up a trail from richmond to the jamestown settlement in williamsburg looking forward to that.Happy New years all and BD wished to the BD girl. Don't drink too much coffee tonight it will keep you up.:)

The wife and I have beach cruisers we use around our neighborhood and sometimes down at the ocean front in VB. It's good exercise, except when we ride down at the ocean front. The bikes always seem to want to stop at one of the many watering holes along the beach. :D

@ImpulseRed008 Happy Birthday Susan. Wishing you many more.

    Same as everybody else...
Best thing you can do Coffeesnob. I was a tic tac away from 300 lbs when I decided I didn't want to spend the rest of my life in a doctor's office. My son was also on his second combat tour in AFG and I was doing a lot of stress eating. I began with small steps to my diet, no sodas, junk food etc. Started off walking, then jogging and biking. I dropped about 80 lbs and am off my cholesterol meds, my blood pressure is excellent, I sleep better and feel better. In May I ran the Marine half Marathon which was my goal. Now since I did injure my leg and have had a few health problems so I can't run but still bike and hike. I encourage anyone at any age to turn off the tv and get out and do something. What is the name of that bike trail outta Richmond? That sounds like a nice ride. BTW do yourself a favor and buy a nice bike. Check reviews on the net, stop by a bike shop. Good luck my friend and congratulations on your decision.

Okay, so an update, rather more upbeat than last time. Brother's blood sugar level was off the charts - 600 - which is "go into a coma" territory. This was almost 12 hours after he had last eaten. His heart rate was over 127, pushing into the low 130's while we were in the hospital. They (ER) ruled out drugs, shock, blood loss and dehydration. But that kind of blood sugar level is enough to make you loopy, which I think contributed to the whole mess. He cut himself, but noting critical was cut, so he will recover.

Anyway, he's on drugs for the mood swings and for the diabetic swings. Going to be released to outpatient next week sometime. Lots of therapy after that. Had to do a "family therapy" session today. After that, it's up in the air. Thanks for the well wishes, and the personal messages of encouragement.

thanks man. We are looking at trek bikes at the local bike shop around the $600.00 dollar range. That trail is called Virginia capitol trail. I too am doing away with junk food and cutting a lot of carbs out. I also noticed since I cut out sugar I don't battle depression as much especially in the morning since I am eating better. Cutting coffee and replacing it with water is really a struggle though.

I tried to cut the coffee but failed, so I still drink it but without the sugar. You will notice big changes eating less sugar and cutting carbs.I use to eat lots of carbs, I was a total bread junkie, but has cut way back. Congrats again man, it's cool that your girl is doing this with you, makes it a lot easier.

It's raining so the firecrackers aren't as bad as they are other days.

Agree.. Atkins diet is hard to sustain but it when my body is the most healthy. There are variations of it including the South Beach diet, whatever works for you. Having someone to do it with helps tremendously and it is hard for me to find that. To me carbs are poison plain and simple. I'm down to one cup of coffee in the morning with splenda. Don't even look at me or talk to me until I have drank it... The dogs they are OK with that LOL.
