    Sorry Susan for your loss,:(:(

And yes, the Vet's need to "Remember what they are doing to our loved one"... I was "escorted to the door" when we put my Harley down.. he started a seizure as they were "doing it" and I kinda lost it.. :goingcrazy::goingcrazy::goingcrazy:

So sorry Miss Susan. It was already going to be a hard day and it sounds like these people didn't make it any easier.

So sorry miss Susan for your loss. And it’s disappointing that the vet that’s familiar with your pet and has been around for the easy visits can’t be there for you and your beloved pet for the end we live in a different world today.

That is hard to read, so sorry you had to go through that.

I gave up on city boy Vets a long time ago. I drive 40 minutes to a rural community small animal clinic. He was a large animal vet and got tired of wrestling with cows and getting beat up. Fantastic team as well. A lot cheaper then in town but not the reason I go to them. When you get that new puppy just an idea but talk to some people about a rural vet?

The main BBS I hang out at and have since the inception a couple of decades ago is upland journal. Bunch of mainly older guys that aren't right in their head and bust through brush getting cut and bruised all day with their dogs to get an occasional shot at a wild bird. Several are authors and one just lost his lab. He is a wordsmith (Keith Crowley) and wrote this piece the day he brought the pup home, I think it is fitting. It will soon be published I think Gray's Sporting Journal, hard to believe it hasn't already.

    The Promise

This is the deal, and I know we both agree:

You promise not to cry too much at the beginning.

I promise to make leaving your first family as painless as I can. I won’t lie to you; it’s going to hurt for a little while.

You promise to make everyone you meet smile from ear to ear. And promise if they get down on the ground with you, you‘ll kiss them frantically. I promise they’ll like that.

You promise that you’ll think every person you see from now on will be the greatest person you’ve ever met. Promise to wag and pant and bounce and pounce. I promise that some of those people won’t be the greatest person you’ve ever met, but that doesn’t change your part. Some people just don’t care for dogs. No one knows why.

You promise to try very hard not to poop in the house. I promise to be patient with your accidents. In the beginning you will surely do better at your part than I will at mine. I promise I’ll work on that.

I promise that when the day comes to learn why you were born, I’ll be there to teach you. Sometimes it will feel like play, but I promise there will be days when it will be hard work. Promise to do your best.

I promise that we will use your training and talents as often as possible. Sometimes I’ll have to be elsewhere, doing things I don’t really want to do. Promise you’ll be patient with me. There will long hours of doing not much, but I promise I’ll be thinking about you.

I promise that we’ll take long walks and even longer rides to get where we’re going. I promise those places will be worth it even if when don’t find a thing to bring back with us. You promise to never stop searching.

I promise that sometimes I’ll hit what I aim at and your mouth will be full of feathers. Promise that you’ll ignore my poor shooting. I promise you, I really am trying to hit those damn things. It’s not that easy.

Promise to forgive me when I don’t trust your nose. Sometimes my eyes deceive me. Your abilities always seem like alchemy and it’s hard for me to understand how different your world is.

I promise to watch out for you when we’re on our adventures. Your single-mindedness can get you into trouble and I have to be vigilant. I promise that your welfare is my biggest concern.

Promise you won’t hide your pains. As much as I want to, I can’t read your thoughts – promise you’ll show me where it hurts if you can.

I promise I’ll remember that you’re aging quicker than I. Promise you will help me feel young.

Promise that your heart won’t push your body too far. I promise that when the day comes to quit this magnificent game, I’ll spend time with you on long, slow walks.

I promise I’ll always play with you if we are both still able. I promise that’s good for us both.

I promise I’ll leave the window down for you on our drives, even when it’s cold. Promise you’ll leave nose prints wherever you can.

You promise you’ll tell me when you’ve had enough. I promise I’ll be there when that time comes.

You promise to never really leave me. I promise to never forget.

I promise not to cry too much at the end. But that’s the one promise I might just break.

Good to see ya around Mike. I was starting to wonder.
I sure would enjoy a good piece of pie right now. It's been awhile since we've been to Stockholm.
Dogs look like they still keep you busy.
Coco is doing good. Still very active. She shares her dog house with 2 cats.
    Really miss the food pictures.:hungry:

Chief Mike-great to see you back in the thread! Fantastic news about the Toller pups. Glad that your dogs are doing well. Enjoy the new Polaris and the double gun shoot in Duluth. I look forward to seeing pictures of the new machine, guns, and of course the food! All the best.

so the 9am winds finally showed up at 2pm...and brought with them smoke from a wildfire in ID. yay. super excited.
also, the winds yesterday were way worse yet no mention in the forecast.
