A local radio station morning show had people calling in to brag about how much vacay time the get. There was a guy claiming to have been a federal employee with 20 years in his position, he has 11 MONTHS of annual vacation, plus sick time... it almost sounds too good to be true, but then again, Uncle Sam may make it possible. Lucky bastard if it's true!
    [/QUOTE]

That can't be true. You can only carry over so many days per year (just like in the military). Sick days can be accumulated, but not annual.
BTW, I'm not a fed. I do work there though. And my company provides unlimited vacation days. Not that anyone abuses that benefit. It's nice to be treated like an adult!
To be honest, I think that person is probably one of the shytb@gs that they can't get rid of and just give them no responsibilities and sit them in a corner to stay out of everyones way. That is more reasonable to have 11 months of nothing to do!

I get 6 weeks plus 5 floater days.

That is very generous but we can no longer bank days.
Problem is 7 of us means we are almost always 1 or 2 people off

A little of this and a little of that.
I'm at 5 weeks vacation, 11 holidays, and 56 hours of PPT (paid personal time) each year.

To be honest, I always have a tough time using it all because I work a 12 hour shift schedule. Use it or lose it.

11 months? We're they being sarcastic and speaking about seasonal employees and stuff?
The best deal I ever heard about was from some Aussies I met in my travels. We both happened to be stppoed at the same spot for photos. Made chit chat while waiting for sunset. They told me they got 3 months vacation a year. Some thing about seniority in AUS that if you stay with the same company for 20+ years you get mega vacay time as an incintive to stay. They regularly took 4 or 6 week vacations around the world and really took their time seeing the sights. Drove the length of South America. All over Europe. Months at a time in the US.

And let me know if you do pass thru. We can grab some foods and talk about everyone behind their backs

They usually call school if the bus company thinks it’s too slippery to drive in. Several schools have gone to remote learning on snow days, but we’re too small a district, and a little slow on accepting new ways to do things.

I had 35 years as a civ, and yes they are generous with leave. Because I hardly ever used sick, leave, by the time I retired, I had over 1200 hours of sick leave, plus the annual max (240 hrs) for personal. (Annual) leave. Course in order to have that, it means you have to go to work for most of your career and not abuse the system as many do.

I tuned in mid way through that conversation but the DJ's weren't exactly buying the story. The phone-in guy sounded like a 'sane' person, not flaky or anything. Who really knows? You would think that at some point there would be a ceiling. The most that I was ever able to have at my old job was 80hrs of vacay on the books and 80 hrs of sick leave, anything accrued and not used during the year was sold back to you ( vacay time) or it went into a 'deep bank' for sick time. They also followed the federal holiday schedule. This new job is laughable at best- 40 hrs of PTO which includes vacay and sick time. 5 holidays.

As a civ working for DoD, we could accumulate unlimited sick leave at 4 hrs per pay period, and (after 15 yrs) 8 hrs of annual leave per pay period, max out at 240/year. Sick leave (at least where I worked), was limited to 3 consecutive days without doctors note, or special cases like birth of child, hospitalization, etc.
